    Abstract: A pressure sensor and its use for visually determining whether a preselected pressure threshold has been achieved, for example during high pressure processing treatment of a foodstuff. The pressure sensor includes a contained color-changing system having a dye, a developer, and a solvent; upon achievement of the preselected pressure threshold, the dye and the developer interact, resulting in a visible color change. Further, the visible color change can be retained upon a decrease in pressure and upon an increase in temperature, thereby effectively recording the achievement of the preselected pressure threshold during the high pressure processing treatment.

    Abstract: A thermochromic efficiency indicator for indicating efficiency of a temperature affector, and methods of making and using such a thermochromic efficiency indicator, whereby the thermochromic efficiency indicator comprises: a substrate; and a first indicia coupled to the substrate, the first indicia comprising a first thermochromic compound capable of undergoing a first thermochromic compound color change; wherein the first thermochromic compound color change indicates the temperature affector is below a first predetermined efficiency threshold.

    Abstract: Thermochromic coatings are improved by mixing thermochromic capsules with polymer resins in a manner that imparts shelf stability to flowable precursors that may be cured quickly using dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid and/or other acid catalysts to form relatively hard coatings that are capable of withstanding machine operations, such as the operations needed to make beverage can lids, bottle caps, pull tabs and the like.
