Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of contacting two components to form a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) construction, wherein the first component comprises a conventional PSA and a hydroxy-functional diorganopolysiloxane and the second component comprises the same PSA and an acyloxysilane. The method provides improved adhesive bond strength over an unmodified PSA construction.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of contacting two components to form a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) construction, wherein the first component comprises a conventional PSA and a liquid copolymeric organopolysiloxane and the second component comprises the PSA and a cure agent for the liquid copolymeric organopolysiloxane. The method provides improved adhesion over the unmodified PSA as measured by bond strength and/or the percentage of cohesive failure of the construction, which bond strength generally increases with the passage of time.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of contacting two components to form a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) construction, wherein the first component comprises a conventional PSA modified with an alkoxy-functional silicon compound and the second component comprises the same PSA modified with a cure agent for the alkoxy-functional silicon compound. The method provides improved adhesive bond strength over the unmodified PSA which generally increases with time.
Abstract:
A gasket of a nonwoven sheet material, and a coating composition on at least one side of the nonwoven sheet material. The coating composition is a reaction product of a vinyl functional polydimethylsiloxane, a trimethylsiloxy silica terpolymer, a reactive diluent, and a catalyst. The reactive diluent can be a methyl vinyl cyclic siloxane having the formula (MeViSiO).sub.n wherein n is an integer of from three to five, Me is methyl, and Vi is vinyl.
Abstract:
A method of laundering textiles is disclosed wherein aminofunctional silicone is dispersed in the rinse water to improve the flow of water out of the textiles during the subsequent spin-separation of water. The resulting textiles contain less residual water and can be dried more rapidly and energy efficiently. The useful aminofunctional silicones are characterized as having either an average of 25 to 125 siloxane units per molecule with 4 to 15 percent of the siloxane units being aminoalkyl substituted or an average of 400 to 600 siloxane units per molecule with 1 to 15 percent of the siloxane units being aminoalkyl substituted.
Abstract:
This invention relates to silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives having improved viscosity stability, film physical property stability upon aging and lap shear stability (hold time) made by a method comprising the condensation of a benzene-soluble resin copolymer of 0.6 to 0.9 triorganosiloxy units per SiO.sub.4/2 unit which contains silicon-bonded hydroxyl radicals and a polydiorganosiloxane preferably containing silicon-bonded hydroxyl or other hydrolyzable endblocking radicals with a sufficient amount of an ammonia releasing endblocking agent containing endblocking triorganosilyl units such as hexamethyldisilazane to result in a 1:0.8 to 1:3 mole ratio of silicon-bonded hydroxyl radicals and hydrolyzable endblocking radicals to total moles of triorganosilyl units provided by the endblocking agent. The condensation is conducted with heating at 80.degree. C.-160.degree. C. in the presence of 0.5 to 10 moles of water per mole of .dbd.NH present in the endblocking agent and, when necessary, in the presence of an effective amount of an organic solvent such as xylene. Condensation is preferably conducted under solvent reflux conditions. When the condensation reaction is substantially complete, the remaining endblocking agent, water and ammonia released by the endblocking agent is stripped from the composition.
Abstract:
Ceramifiable silicone adhesives having tack and green strength are provided by mixing a ceramifiable filler with certain silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives. The silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive comprises approximately equal weights, plus or minus five percent, of a polydiorganosiloxane having a viscosity of from 1 to 1000 Pa.multidot.s and a xylene-soluble resin copolymer of R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 siloxane units and SiO.sub.4/2 siloxane units. High loadings (80 weight percent of the ceramifiale adhesive) of ceramifiable filler are attainable without loss of tack and green strength when the polydiorganosiloxane is a mixture of a low-viscosity fluid and a high-viscosity fluid. These ceramifiable silicone adhesives are useful for assembling and adhering a plurality of ceramifiable greenware components to form a ceramifiable composite greenware article.
