    Abstract: A communications network may be used to convey Short Message Service (SMS) messages using the Internet Protocol (IP). User equipment may transmit an SMS-over-IP Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message to wireless equipment over a high-bandwidth communications link. The wireless equipment may route the SMS-over-IP SIP message to the ePDG. When the high-bandwidth link is unavailable, the user equipment may transmit a compressed message to the proxy server over a low-bandwidth communications link. The proxy server may convert the compressed message into an SMS-over-IP SIP message that is transmitted to the ePDG. The proxy server may serve as a proxy for the first user equipment from the perspective of the ePDG. This may allow SMS message data to continue to be conveyed through the communications network even when the high-bandwidth communications link becomes unavailable.

    Abstract: An electronic device having multiple antenna groups for data communication may determine a temperature of a first antenna group and determine a power gain of a second antenna group. The electronic device may communicate using the second antenna group in response to determining that the temperature of the first antenna group exceeds a temperature threshold and the power gain of the second antenna group exceeds a gain threshold. In some embodiments, the electronic device may receive communication link preferences, determine an antenna group that is disposed outside of thermal hotspots of the electronic device, and determine a beam that enables the communication link preferences via the antenna group. The electronic device may then transmit or receive data via the antenna group by forming the beam.

    Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may camp on a network following a SIM bootup. Specifically, the UE may determine that a SIM implementation module of the UE includes a first SIM application (e.g., USIM) associated with a first cellular radio access technology (RAT) (e.g., LTE) and a second SIM application (e.g., CSIM) associated with a second cellular RAT (e.g., CDMA). The UE may then initialize the first SIM application and the second SIM application. The UE may determine whether the network is configured to support both voice and data communications using the first cellular RAT. If so, the UE may initiate camping on the network with the first cellular RAT in response to determining that the first SIM application is ready, but before the second SIM application is ready. If not, the UE may wait until both the first and second SIM applications are ready before initiating camping on the network.

    Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for user equipment (UE) devices to perform a postponement of a data service request are described. A UE may detect a data service request failure during cell reselection and postpone a resend of the data service request based on a status of the cell reselection. The status may be an indication that the UE is attempting to camp on a cell or that the UE is monitoring one or more metrics associated with cell reselection. To postpone the data service request, the UE may postpone the data service request for a specified period of time or until the cell reselection is complete. The status may be monitored on a first layer of a protocol stack and the data service request may generated by a second layer of the protocol stack. The postponement may be for a fixed or variable time period.
