    Abstract: An electronic device may include wireless circuitry with a phased antenna array that conveys radio-frequency signals using signal beams of first and second orthogonal polarizations. The array may sweep over a set of signal beam pairs, each including a respective combination of signal beams of the first and second polarizations. The wireless circuitry may gather performance metric values for each of the polarizations and signal beam pairs. The circuitry may generate a filtered set of signal beam pairs by removing signal beam pairs having performance metric values that differ from a maximum of the wireless performance metric values by more than a threshold. The circuitry may select a signal beam pair from the filtered set having a minimum polarization imbalance. The array may concurrently convey first and second wireless data streams using the selected signal beam pair. Minimizing polarization imbalance may maximize overall data throughput for the device.

    Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with first and second sidewalls, a rear wall, and a display. Multiple antenna panels may be used to convey radio-frequency signals at frequencies greater than 10 GHz. A first antenna panel may radiate through the display while second and third panels radiate through the first and second sidewalls. The second and third panels may be tilted at non-zero angles with respect to the sidewalls. The non-zero angles may be of opposite sign. The non-zero angles may have the same magnitude. The magnitude may be equal to 15 degrees, as one example. Tilting the panels in this way may allow the panels to collectively cover as much of a sphere around the device as possible, including out of coverage areas behind the rear wall caused by conductive material in the rear wall, without requiring additional panels to be disposed within the device.

    Abstract: This application describes systems and processes for beam selection performance refinement in static conditions of wireless devices (e.g., user equipment UE). A data processing system of the UE is configured to perform a beam scan for testing multiple high gain candidate beams on a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) and link adaptation (LA) channel state information reference signal (LA-CSI-RS) while the UE is not moving and the data processing system of the UE determines that the channel is stable. The data processing system is configured to refine a given beam choice based on a determined capacity of the beams (e.g., from PDSCH signaling and/or LA-CSI-RS signals) to optimize data throughput.

    Abstract: A user equipment device may include a radio that conveys wireless data with one or more base stations using a set of component carriers (CCs) that are concurrently-active under a carrier aggregation scheme or a dual connectivity scheme. When in a thermally-constrained state, a resource manager on the radio may intelligently select a CC to drop from use in conveying the wireless data. The resource manager may select the CC to drop based on the bandwidths, data rates, error rates, and/or activation/deactivation rates of the set of CCs, a power budget assigned to the radio, and/or information about the demodulation and decoding clusters in a modem of the radio. Selecting the CC to drop in this way may provide greater power and temperature reduction at the radio and/or less wireless performance reduction than blindly dropping the most recently added CC from use in conveying the wireless data.
