In a paging receive for use in a radio paging system which employs a sophisticated data communication protocol, all protocol analysis operations such as de-interleaving and error correction processing are performed by a CPU which executes a control program, with the analysis being performed only on those received data frames which contain messages addressed to that paging receiver, and with the protocol analysis being performed first for the address field of such a frame, to obtain information specifying the position within a message field of that frame of requisite specific message data which are addressed to the paging receiver, then being performed only for these specific message data, within that message field. The control program is executed as two separate processes, each of which can be interrupted in response to interrupt signals supplied to the CPU and subsequently restarted, with one process performing protocol analysis and the other process performing operations which are requested through function switch actuations, so that such operations requests can be registered while protocol analysis is in progress, enabling rapid response to the requests.

Before recording/reproducing, a check is made, by using a rate of data transfer with the outside, of a data transfer rate in an access to a track where each of the selected sectors lies, and of a seek time for each of changes in tracks, to see if the buffer will overflow/underflow during the period of recording/reproducing. If so, then an input/output data transfer rate is reduced before recording/reproducing to make the check. In case of recording, if there is at least a substitute for a sector which will cause the overflow, the sector is changed to a substitute.

A method of producing a support for a planographic printing plate, which reduces the scattering in the material of the aluminum support, improves the yield of the electrolytic surface graining treatment, and is able to produce lithographic printing plates having superior surface graining aptitude. Aluminum material with a width of 1000 mm and a thickness of 6 mm is formed in the continuous casting twin-roller thin plate device. It is then cold rolled to a plate thickness of 3 mm, and after conducting annealing at 400.degree. C., cold rolling (including correction) is further conducted to bring it to 0.3 mm and form the samples. The temperature distribution of the molten metal at the outlet of the molten metal supply nozzle is kept within a predetermined range.

A method and apparatus for treating a surface of an aluminum substrate for a printing plate includes treating the substrate surface with a treatment liquid being circulated, separating and discharging aluminum ions from a portion of the treatment liquid, recovering a sodium hydroxide solution from the treatment liquid, mixing the recovered sodium hydroxide solution with the treatment liquid being circulated, and maintaining a predetermined concentration of aluminum ions in the treatment liquid to be used. A portion of the treatment liquid containing sodium aluminate solution is mixed with aluminum slag containing an amorphous aluminum hydroxide produced at the time of neutralization of a waste acid and a waste alkali produced during surface treatment to thereby supersaturate the sodium aluminate solution, crystallize the aluminum hydroxide, and recover the sodium hydroxide solution to be returned to a liquid control tank to maintain a predetermined concentration of aluminum ions in the treatment liquid. Further, the characteristics of the aluminum slag are changed to be usable as an industrially available aluminum hydroxide. Still further, a hydrolytic reaction is caused in a separated part of the treatment liquid. Preferably, the supersaturated aluminate solution is passed through a filter, so that aluminum hydroxide is crystallized from the sodium aluminate solution, and the sodium hydroxide solution is recovered.

The lithographic printing plate support includes an aluminum plate, and an aluminum anodized film formed thereon and having micropores which extend in a depth direction of the anodized film from a surface of the anodized film opposite from the aluminum plate. Each micropore has a large-diameter portion which extends to a depth of 5 to 60 nm (depth A) from the anodized film surface, and a small-diameter portion which communicates with the bottom of the large-diameter portion, further extends to a depth of 900 to 2,000 nm from the communication position and has a predetermined average diameter.
