Abstract:
A gray inkjet ink having a black colorant and at least one cyan, magenta, or yellow colorant. By adjusting the amount of cyan, magenta, or yellow colorant in the inkjet ink, a gray inkjet ink having a neutral, warm, cool, or sepia tone is produced. At least one gray inkjet ink is used in a black ink set or an eight-color ink set to produce black and white images having high resolution. Methods of producing black and white images having desired gray tones are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A medication dispenser includes a thermal drop generator ejector head. Medication is maintained in a pressurized container connected to a valve under the control of control electronics and to a compliant chamber. Fluid flows from the container to the chamber and to the ejector head. In a first mode the dispenser is operable to dispense aerosolized medication. In a second mode the ejector head is purged with fluid from the container to maintain the ejector head.
Abstract:
A device for sorting particles. The device may include a channel structure that defines a channel having an inlet and first and second outlets. The device also may include first and second transport mechanisms. The first transport mechanism may be configured to create a particle stream of first particles and one or more second particles. Each particle may move along the channel from the inlet toward the first outlet and may be disposed in a fluid supported by the channel structure. The second transport mechanism may be configured to be pulse-activated to selectively move at least one of the second particles from the particle stream and toward the second outlet.
Abstract:
A disposable blood test device comprises a substrate configured for carrying a chemical reagent and circuitry formed on the substrate. The circuitry comprises a sensor portion associated with the chemical reagent to enable measurement of at least one of a presence and a concentration of a blood analyte, and an information storage portion configured to store information indicative of a property of the chemical reagent.
Abstract:
A filter for a display system is provided which includes a fluid chamber having a selectively moveable filtering fluid, plural electrodes being coupled with the fluid chamber to accommodate establishment of an electric field whereby the filtering fluid may be selectively positioned in an optical path.
Abstract:
A waterfast, environmentally friendly ink-jet ink, is disclosed comprising from 1% to 90% by weight of a first humectant selected from the group consisting of glycerol, propanediol, and combinations thereof; from 1% to 25% by weight of a second humectant selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and combinations thereof; from 1% to 20% by weight of a drying agent selected from the group consisting of 1,2-hexanediol, 1,2-pentanediol, and combinations thereof; from 0% to 20% by weight of 2-pyrrolidone; from 0.05% to 10.0% by weight of a waterfastness control dye selected from the group consisting of azo-containing dyes and phthalocyanine-containing dyes; and at least one additional dye present at from about 1.0% to 10.0% by weight. If the waterfastness control dye is an azo-containing dye, such dyes can include Direct Red 227, Direct Red 254, Direct Yellow 86, and Acid Orange 7. Alternatively, if the waterfastness control dye is a phthalocyanine-containing dye, the nickel, copper or aluminum phthalocyanines can be used.
Abstract:
A maintenance system for a printhead, the system having a sled; a wiper module supported by the sled, the wiper module comprising a rotatable shaft and a porous material about the shaft; a lift mechanism for lifting the wiper module from the sled to position the porous material against the printhead; a rotation mechanism for rotating the shaft so that the porous material rotates against the printhead, the porous material being configured to absorb fluid from the printhead during the rotation; and a sliding mechanism for sliding the sled relative to the printhead so that the rotating porous material is wiped across the printhead.
Abstract:
A method of maintaining a printhead and the method having when printing with the printhea, translating a modular sled relative to the printhead so as to align a media platen module supported by the sled with the printhead after printing with the printing, translating the sled relative to the printhead so as to align a wiper module supported by the sled with the printhead and operating a wiper roller of the wiper module so as to wipe a printing face of the printhead; and after the wiping and prior to commencement of printing with the printhead, translating the sled relative to the printhead so as to align a capper module supported by the sled with the printhead so as to cap the printing face of the printhead.
Abstract:
A maintenance apparatus for a printhead, the apparatus having a first porous member for contacting the printhead to absorb fluid from the printhead; and a second porous member for contacting the first porous member to absorb fluid from the first porous member.
Abstract:
A maintenance apparatus for a media width printhead is provided. The printhead has rows of fluid ejection nozzles extending along the media width for ejecting fluid onto media as the media travels past the printhead along a media travel direction. The apparatus has a seal for sealing against the printhead surface having the nozzle rows and forming a sealed space about the nozzle rows, a wick element positioned within the seal for wicking fluid ejected by the nozzles from the sealed space, and an alignment mechanism for aligning the seal with the printhead so that a portion of an outer surface of the wick element sloped in the media travel direction closest to the printhead is positioned upstream with respect to a centerline along the length the nozzle rows and a portion of the sloped outer surface of the wick element furthest from the printhead is positioned downstream.
