A record medium 200 includes a user area for recording user data which can be recorded and regenerated based on an instruction given by a user; a recording-system circuit section 120 records test data based on a predetermined test condition in the user area; a regeneration-system circuit section 130 reads the test data recorded in the user area by the recording-system circuit section 120; and a system control circuit 102 refers to the test data read by the regeneration-system circuit section 130 and adjusts an access parameter for accessing the record medium 200.

    摘要: This optical read/write apparatus has first and second optical heads 2a, 2b and includes location control sections 4a, 4b which make the relative arrangement of the first and second optical heads 2a, 2b variable according to either the environmental temperature or from one medium to another. The first optical head 2a performs a write operation to record a mark on an optical storage medium 1, and the second optical head 2b reads the information that has been written by scanning the recorded mark. The apparatus further includes a nonvolatile memory which saves the relative arrangement of the first and second optical heads 2a and 2b either on an environmental temperature basis or on a medium by medium basis.

    摘要: A method for rating an information recording medium according to the present invention includes the steps of: receiving a digital read signal, which has been generated based on an analog read signal representing information that has been read from the information recording medium, and shaping the waveform of the digital read signal; subjecting the shaped digital read signal to maximum likelihood decoding, thereby generating a binarized signal showing a result of the maximum likelihood decoding; and calculating the quality of the digital read signal based on the shaped digital read signal and the binarized signal. If the quality of the read signal is calculated by a PRML method in which a number of zero-cross portions are included in a merging path of a minimum difference metric, the quality is calculated by using only a state transition pattern in which only one zero-cross portion is included in a merging path of a non-minimum difference metric.

In a pattern including a shortest mark and a shortest space adjacent before or after the shortest mark, a shift amount of an edge of the shortest mark is obtained from a differential metric calculated regarding one of a first pattern in which a space adjacent to the shortest mark and not adjacent to the shortest space is longer than the shortest space; and a second pattern in which a mark adjacent to the shortest space and not adjacent to the shortest mark is longer than the shortest mark.
