    摘要: A torquable catheter with a flexible elongate tubular member which has proximal and distal extremities and a longitudinal axis. The tubular member has a first portion and second portions, each having proximal and distal extremities. The first portion has its proximal extremity adjacent to the proximal extremity of the tubular member, and is comprised of a plastic torque tube which has a cylindrical wall that is circular in cross-section. The cylindrical wall has fibers disposed in it to provide good torque characteristics. The second portion is adjacent the distal extremity of the flexible elongate tubular member and is comprised of a metal torque tube which has at least one slot in it extending substantially transversely of the longitudinal axis. A flexible sleeve encases the metal torque tube. A joint is formed between the proximal extremity of the metal torque tube and the distal extremity of the plastic torque tube. A handle is mounted on the proximal extremity of the flexible elongate member and is used to cause bending of the of the second portion.

    摘要: A drug injection device (or what some might prefer to call a "drug injection site") comprises a doubled wall, doughnut-shaped cylinder adapted to be inserted into an intravenous delivery tube. Preferably it is made of a pair of identically shaped elements having an outer end an inner circular wall, both of which, when the two elements are placed together in opposed relationship, form continuous walls of a doughnut or O-ring shape. The interior of the doughnut is filled with a soft surgical grade rubber which, when under compression, permits ready insertion of a hypodermic needle therethrough but which, when the needle is withdrawn, is self-sealing. A plurality of radially aligned apertures, or windows, are provided in the inner and outer walls, so that the hypodermic needle can be inserted through the outer wall, through the rubber sealing element and then through the aligned window in the inner wall. Preferably, the windows are three in number, equally spaced around the circumference of the device, so that when a needle is inserted through the respective windows and the rubber sealing element, it will be stopped by an opposing wall of the inner solid surface of the inner wall of the device.

    摘要: This invention relates to a drug dispensing capsule in which the drug may be first mixed with a predetermined quantity of parenteral fluid (the solution to be administered to the patient). It is adapted to be used at the discharge end of an intravenous feeding pump and will automatically switch over to the parenteral fluid as soon as the drug dosage has been dispensed. The device comprises a cylindrical chamber somewhat of the nature of an enlarged hypodermic syringe. It has an inlet at one end and an outlet at the other. A piston-like fluid separator is slidably mounted on the interior of said cylindrical chamber. The drug mixture to be administered is placed in the chamber between the piston and the discharge end of the chamber. The capsule is placed in the pumping system at the discharge end of the pump, the outlet from the device being connected to the tube to the needle inserted in the blood vessel of a patient. When the pump is operated, it pushes the piston axially in the cylinder thereby forcing the drug dosage out of the outlet end of the chamber and into the patient. When the piston reaches the end of the cylinder, the seal between the piston and the wall of the chamber is automatically broken, as by means of ridges projecting inwardly from the wall of the chamber, or by cavities formed in the wall thereof. Means is provided for exhausting air from the chamber, both when the parenteral fluid is introduced into the chamber and when a capsule with its premeasured dosage is placed in the system.

    摘要: Catheter having a high torque capability adapted to be inserted into and through a lumen of a blood vessel comprising a flexible elongate tubular shaft having proximal and distal extremities. The shaft is comprised of a torque tube extending substantially the entire length of the shaft. The torque tube has a cylindrical wall with at least one flexible portion therein with the flexible portion being characterized in that at least one slot is provided in the cylindrical wall subtending an angle of less than 360.degree.. A flexible sleeve encloses the torque tube and serves to cover the flexible portion while permitting the torque tube to bend in the vicinity of the slot a predetermined amount which is less than that which would create a permanent strain in the torque tube.

    摘要: Disposable pump cassette for a liquid comprising a substantially rigid housing providing a chamber and having upper and lower portions. A flexible substantially cylindrical bladder is vertically disposed in the chamber and has an inlet adapted to receive the liquid and an outlet. The bladder has upper and lower wall portions. The lower wall portion is of a thinner cross section then the upper wall portion. An inlet valve is disposed in the inlet of the bladder and is mounted in the lower portion of the housing. An outlet valve is disposed in the outlet of the bladder and is mounted in the upper portion of the housing. The inlet and outlet valves are disposed in the liquid and provide unidirectional flow of the liquid through the bladder. A substantially incompressible driving liquid is disposed in the chamber and surrounds the bladder. A housing extension is mounted on said housing and is in communication with the driving liquid disposed in the chamber. A movable piston is slidably mounted in the housing extension. A drive is provided for reciprocating the piston for causing displacement of the driving liquid in the chamber to compress and decompress the bladder to cause the liquid to flow through the bladder progressively from the lower portion to the upper portion of the bladder.

    摘要: The intravenous feeding pump actuator of the present invention is driven by a small, very slow speed motor and a gear train, such as one rotating the output shaft at a speed of one revolution per minue (1 r.p.m.). The single motor drives a readily replaceable cam which is slipped into position on the drive shaft and needs no other means for attaching it thereto. Each of the cams normally supplied with the actuator is designed to give a predetermined number of rocking movements per minute to a cam follower which directly operates the associated intravenous pump, and simultaneously controls the limit of travel of the cam follower and thus the length of the stroke of the pump operator. It will be understood that each of the cams will provide for a different flow rate for the associated pump by controlling the number of strokes per minute and the length of each stroke and is readily changeable so that one can be quickly and easily removed and another placed in its stead when determined by operating conditions.

    摘要: The present invention comprises a small, precise measuring pump provided with a germ barrier that is specifically designed for intravenous feeding devices and comprises: inlet and outlet chambers which are preferably integral one with the other, an inlet adapted to receive a tube from a storage device and the outlet chamber provided with an outlet adapted to receive a tube for delivery of material pumped to a patient; a passageway between the two chambers, which serves as an outlet from the inlet chamber and an inlet into the outlet chamber; a valve (preferably a float valve) associated with each inlet; and an actuating device which includes a piston and a tightly fitting resilient sheath enclosing the piston, the combination of piston and sheath projecting into the inlet chamber. The movement of the piston inwardly and outwardly within the inlet chamber provides the pumping force for the operation of the pump, and the sheath provides a sterile seal between the piston and the body of the pump and also, if made of resilient material, such as rubber, provides a force for returning the piston to an inoperative position. A pumping force may be applied to the external end of the piston by any suitable means.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a failure alarm system for an intravenous feeding pump in which the pumping force is secured by the projection of a plunger into a chamber filled with the liquid to be pumped, which plunger is encased in a tightly fitting sheath of elastic material. In such a pump, actuation is secured by the application of a force from an actuator to the end of the plunger extending without the wall of a pumping chamber and the return force is secured by the elasticity of the sheath. The actuator of such a pump provides an actuator which can be selectively set to provide an extended range of operations per unit of time and can be modified to control the amount of projection into the pumping chamber by the plunger. In such a combination means is provided by the present invention for sensing the fact that there is a negative pressure, or suction, in the system that is not balanced by the in-flow of liquid, i.e., the amount of fluid delivered to the pump for each operation is less than that required by the setting (thus sensing when a supply is shut off, or less than the preset amount of liquid is reaching the pump).
