摘要: Methods and systems for bidirectional priming of a blood circuit while a catheter is connected to the circuit that delivers gas-enriched blood to a patient. The system primes the circuit while the catheter is connected to the circuit by controlling a first flow control mechanism to close to prevent blood flow through the draw line to a catheter and causes a pump to circulate blood in a first direction through a mixing chamber and/or through a bubble trap that removes air bubbles from the circuit. The system controls a second flow control mechanism to close to prevent blood flow in a return line to the catheter while causing the first flow control mechanism to open after the second flow control mechanism is closed and while causing the pump to circulate the blood in a second, opposite direction through the mixing chamber that removes air bubbles from the circuit.

摘要: A primer may be used with IV catheter systems. The primer may be positioned along the tubing of an extension set such that the primer divides the IV catheter system into a downstream portion and an upstream portion. The primer may vent air from both the upstream and downstream portions to allow blood to flow up to the primer while also allowing priming solution to flow down to the primer. As a result, the catheter may be inserted into the patient's vasculature without first priming the catheter. Once the air has been vented from the upstream and downstream portions of the IV catheter system, the primer may be actuated to open a fluid pathway through the primer. With the fluid pathway opened, the priming solution may commence flowing towards the patient's vasculature thereby flushing the blood from the IV catheter system.

摘要: Simple-to-use systems, methods, and devices for priming replacement blood treatment devices, for swapping the blood treatment devices out, for replacing swapped-out blood treatment devices, and other related operations are described. In embodiments, a blood treatment device can be primed while a therapy is still running. When the replacement blood treatment device is needed, the therapy can be stopped momentarily (less than a minute) for the rapid and safe swap of the blood treatment device. Blood loss can be minimized. The down time from therapy can be minimized.

摘要: Described is a method for controlling fluid volume balance. A controller is configured with a first set of inputs comprising a hematocrit, a total blood volume, and an ACD ratio. A maximum extracorporeal RBC amount during the procedure is estimated based on the first set of inputs. A fluid circuit is primed with a priming fluid. Whole blood is drawn from a blood source and separated into a RBC component, a target cell component, and a plasma component. The target cell component is directed to a product container. The product container comprising the target cell component is treated. A treated target cell component, a portion of the RBC component remaining in the fluid circuit, and/or a portion of the plasma component remaining in the fluid circuit are returned to the blood source. A first response action is provided if the maximum extracorporeal RBC amount estimated is above a programmed limit.

摘要: A hemodialysis system is provided and includes a dialyzer, a dialysis fluid circuit in fluid communication with the dialyzer, a blood circuit, a blood detector and a blood rinseback scheme, wherein the blood rinseback scheme includes transferring blood to the patient using a physiologically acceptable fluid, wherein the physiologically acceptable fluid is introduced from its source into an arterial line between an arterial line patient end and a blood pump of the blood circuit, and flowed through the dialyzer, through a venous drip chamber and to the blood detector along a venous line of the blood circuit, where the physiologically acceptable fluid is sensed by the blood detector to indicate an end of the blood rinseback.
