摘要: A portage apparatus for a lightweight water craft having a central frame, comprising a receiver member attached to the central frame. A proximal end of an engaging member couples in a selected orientation to the receiver and is fastened thereto. A wheel permits the water craft to be manually lifted and rolled, wheelbarrow fashion. The receiver and engaging member preferably are tubular. A method for portaging a water craft of a type having a central frame comprises attaching a receiver member to the central frame of the water craft. A wheel assembly is engaged with the receiver member and coupled thereto. The water craft may then be manually lifted and rolled in wheelbarrow fashion over land. The wheel assembly is then decoupled from the receiver member, and the water craft and receiver member is slid into the-water until the water craft floats on a water surface.

摘要: A color mapping scheme is provided which enables a K-only black point while minimizing interpolator image artifacts. Specifically, a system and method of reducing image artifacts for a color imaging device include implementing a color map so that no C, M or Y color value that is used in defining the black point is produced, except at the black point. The system and method further include implementing a halftone ramp so that: (i) a halftone pattern is selected to provide no rendering for any C, M or Y color value that is used in defining the black point, and (ii) a halftone pattern is selected to provide a full rendering for any K color value that is used in defining the black point. The color map is also implemented so that no C, M or Y color value that is used in defining the black point is obtained as a result of interpolation, except for at the black point.

摘要: This invention discloses a method for enhancing memory in a patient comprising administering a compound of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a lower alkyl group; m is an integer between about 0 and 4; and n is an integer between about 5 and 14. The methods generally comprise administering an effective amount of the compound. The invention also discloses the enhancement of memory by the use of non-steroidal sulfatase inhibitors of the above formula in conjunction with the naturally occurring neurosteroids dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and/or pregnenolone sulfate (PS). The patients benefitting from the methods of the present invention will generally have an illness that causes memory loss, or will be individuals who otherwise want to improve memory.

摘要: An improvement for retaining sling swivels on a firearm where web or narrow fabric is used in place of cord. Holes in an outer retaining piece and an inner cushioning piece can be of any shape. An extending projection may be used in the holes to conform the web or narrow fabric to the openings in the sling swivel. In another embodiment, a wire may be enclosed in a closed web loop. A tab, which is folded and stitched, is formed adjacent to an outer retaining piece.

摘要: A media transport system for controlling the position and velocity of media in a document production apparatus marking engine having a media positioning system driven by a motor, includes a motion control loop to control the motor; a sensor adapted to detect the position of the media and to create a trigonometric signal characteristic of the position of the media, the trigonometric signal comprising frequency and phase components; a resolver electronics subsystem adapted to trigonometrically process the trigonometric signal to create a resolved signal; and means for comparing the resolved signal to a reference clock signal of predetermined frequency and phase to provide an error signal used to control the motor that drives the media positioning system. The trigonometric signal may include a sine portion and a cosine portion. The sine portion of the trigonometric signal is sin(.omega..sub.e *t+.phi..sub.e) and the cosine portion of the trigonometric signal is cos(.omega..sub.e *t+.phi..sub.e); where .omega..sub.e is the trigonometric signal frequency component, .phi..sub.e is the trigonometric signal phase component, and t is the time. The resolver electronics subsystem may include a first multiplier adapted to output the product of the sine portion of the trigonometric signal and a reference cosine command cos(.omega..sub.r *t+.phi..sub.r); a second multiplier adapted to output the product of cosine portion of the trigonometric signal and a reference sine command sin(.omega..sub.r *t+.phi..sub.r), where .omega..sub.r is the frequency of the reference command and .phi..sub.r is the phase of the reference command; and means to add the outputs of the first and second multipliers.

摘要: A method for operating a thermal ink jet printer including a printhead having ink firing heater resistors responsive to pulses provided to the printhead. A sequence of pulse bursts of respective increasing or decreasing pulse energies that span a predetermined pulse energy range is applied to the printhead, each pulse burst comprised of a plurality of pulses having a pulse energy that is associated with such pulse burst and is constant for all pulses in such burst, and each burst having a sufficient number of pulses to allow the printhead to achieve a steady state operating temperature at the pulse energy of the pulse burst. A steady state operating temperature sample is determined for each of the sequence of pulses bursts of different pulse energies to produce a set of temperature samples respectively associated with the increasing pulse energies, and a turn on pulse energy is determined from the temperature samples. The thermal ink jet printhead is then operated with a pulse energy that is greater than the turn on pulse energy and in a range that provides a desired print quality while avoiding premature failure of the heater resistors.

摘要: An improved apparatus and method for uniformly cooking thick layers of food product in a saturated steam environment. A foraminous conveyor belt transports a thick layer of food product into a walled cooking chamber open at its ends. The walls trap pure saturated steam to the exclusion of air in the upper region of the chamber. A pressurized source of cooking energy supplies steam through a network of steam pipes situated just below the level of the belt along its carryway through the upper region of the cooking chamber. The pipes, which span the width of the conveyor belt, include small, restricted openings uniformly distributed along the pipes. The openings form steam outlets. The pipes are oriented with the steam outlets facing the conveyor belt. Saturated steam is emitted through the outlets directed through the foraminous conveyor belt at a velocity great enough to penetrate the thick product layer to cook even the innermost product within the thick layer, thereby improving the uniformity of the cook. The thick product layer slows the steam as it penetrates the layer to prevent the formation of turbulent flow paths that could draw unwanted air into the 212.degree. F. saturated steam cooking region. An S-shaped back-flip in the conveying path repositions the product on the belt to further improve cooking uniformity.
