Abstract:
The invention provides methods, compositions, and kits for removal of biofilms from surfaces. The methods described herein comprise simultaneous or sequential application of a perhydrolase enzyme and a mixture of other enzymes, such as proteases, glucanases, esterases, mannanases, phospholipases, cellulases, and/or amylases, to a biofilm on a surface, to effect removal of the biofilm.
Abstract:
Systems, methods and articles of manufacture are disclosed for building and executing analytics solutions. Such a solution may provide a comprehensive analytics solution (e.g., a risk assessment, fraud detection solution, dynamic operational risk evaluations, regulatory compliance assessments, etc.). The analytics solution may perform an analytics task using operational data distributed across a variety of independently created and governed data repositories in different departments of an organization. A framework is disclosed which allows a user (e.g., a risk analyst) to compose analytical tools that can access data from a variety of sources (both internal and external to an enterprise) and perform a variety of analytic functions.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are described for performing storage operations on electronic data in a network. In response to the initiation of a storage operation and according to a first set of selection logic, a media management component is selected to manage the storage operation. In response to the initiation of a storage operation and according to a second set of selection logic, a network storage device to associate with the storage operation. The selected media management component and the selected network storage device perform the storage operation on the electronic data.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to steroidal esters of 17-oximino-5-androsten-3-ol, of compound of general formula (A) wherein R is selected from a group consisting of arylalkyl, aryl, substituted aryl. The ester derivatives are synthesized starting from Dehydroandrosterone acetate. The compounds were tested for their antiproliferative activity and 5α-reductase inhibitory activity in comparison to Finasteride. Decreased androgen level have been found in serum of animal treated with newly synthesized compounds. These compounds have also shown better cytotoxicity in comparison to reference drug Finasteride. Thus such compounds can be useful in treatment of androgen dependent disorder of prostate alone or by synergistic effect they can decrease the size of prostate due to their antiproliferative activity.
Abstract:
Described herein are starch hydrolysis processes for obtaining fermentable sugars from starch in milled plant material at temperatures below the starch gelatinization temperature and using exogenous plant alpha amylases further to the fermentation of the sugars to produce end products, such as ethanol.
Abstract:
A composite of one or more repeat sequence protein polymers and either one or more metal oxides or one or more plasticizers alters material properties of the repeat sequence protein polymers, including the morphology of the polymers as well as the elastic modulus and tensile strength. The morphology of the composite is aligned, generally parallel nanofibers.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of detecting viruses, such as respiratory-related viruses, in a sample with a sensitivity of at least 80%, and/or specificity of at least 90%, and/or with an accuracy of at least 90%. The method comprises contacting the sample with a biosensor. The present invention also provides a biosensor comprising a membrane and a solid conducting surface, with the membrane being attached to the solid conducting surface in a manner such that a reservoir exists therebetween. The membrane comprises first and second layers each comprising closely packed amphiphilic molecules; a plurality of first and second ionophores located in the first and second layers, respectively; and a plurality of antibodies or fragments thereof directed against nucleoproteins of respiratory-related viruses, more specifically, nucleoproteins of an influenza virus, and covalently attached to the second ionophores. The present invention further provides a device comprising an array of such biosensors.
Abstract:
The invention provides isolated nucleic acid molecules encoding polypeptides having 2,5-DKG permease activity, and oligonucleotides therefrom. The isolated nucleic acid molecules can be expressed in appropriate bacterial cells to enhance the production of 2-KLG, which can subsequently be converted to ascorbic acid. Further provided are isolated polypeptides having 2,5-DKG permease activity, immunogenic peptides therefrom, and antibodies specific therefor. The invention also provides methods of identifying novel 2,5-DKG permeases.
Abstract:
A system and method for managing data resources includes a policy definition layer, a policy deployment layer and a policy execution layer. The policy definition layer provides for creating, editing and visualizing policies through a user interface using intuitive simple language constructs. The policy deployment layer converts the created policies into a relational format that can be directly stored in a policy database. The policy execution layer executes the deployed policies on occurrence of an event. A resource abstraction and notification layer provides the interfacing of the resources with the policy definition layer, policy deployment layer and the policy execution layer.
Abstract:
A method for dynamically allocating control of a storage device, the method comprising receiving an access request from a first computer requesting access to a storage device; directing, based upon the access request, a first storage controller computer to assume an inactive state with respect to control of the storage device; and directing, based upon the access request, a second storage controller computer to assume an active state with respect to control of the storage device.
