Abstract:
According to the invention, when a target name is inputted using characters such as alphabet and numerics, strings of characters or numerics are compared with data of registered places each time one character is inputted, names of registered places including the inputted string of characters or numerics is listed, and the number of registered target names remaining on the list is displayed. When the target name is inputted in characters, the inputted data is compared with a list of the registered names having word components arranged in different orders with respect to a single official name by a forward match comparison, and the number of registered target names remaining on the list with forward match is displayed. When the number of the inputted characters or numerics increases and the number of registered target names remaining on the list decreases, a list of the registered place names is displayed. The target name is selected from this list. When the number registered target names remaining on the list is one, the target name is selected. A map of the vicinity of the target name thus selected is displayed.
Abstract:
A vehicular navigation system includes a central control unit which determines when a present position deviates from a searched route along which guidance is being provided from a starting point to a destination and determines whether or not the detected deviating present position is on a guidable road prior to re-searching the route and providing guidance based upon the re-searched route. A guidable road is a road upon which the navigation system contains sufficient map information and guide information for the navigation system to search a route and provide guidance. Additionally, system determines whether the vehicle has traveled a predetermined distance after re-search of the route prior to providing travel guidance based upon the re-searched route. Otherwise travel guidance continues to be provided based upon the previously searched route. A driver, after making a short deviation, may thus return to the previous route without travel guidance being interrupted by a re-searched route.
Abstract:
An information processing apparatus, for reading information from a memory medium such as a CD-ROM and displaying read information, includes a controller for controlling a drive motor which drives the memory medium. The drive motor is normally driven at a normal speed but is driven at a higher speed when a certain operation requires reading a large amount of information data within a certain time. After the data is read at high speed, the drive motor is automatically switched to normal speed. The drive motor drives at the higher speed only when necessary, so that the drive motor retains its durability and the information processing apparatus is more responsive.
Abstract:
A navigation system for use in a vehicle including a route-calculating section and a route guide control section. The route-calculating section searches for an optimum route according to conditions set for the search. The guide control section provides displays necessary to guide the driver of the vehicle, and guides the driver by speech. This guide control has a landmark name-setting section which sets the names of landmarks according to information about the landmarks, the information retrieved from a guidance information storage section according to information about the present position from a present position-determining section. A display section displays a whole route map indicating the selected route according to instructions from the route guidance control section. At the same time, the names of the landmarks are presented on the display section. When the navigation system guides the driver to a destination via a tollway such as a toll highway, the name of an entry/exit interchange connecting to the highway is displayed. This permits the driver to take a familiar route up to this interchange.
Abstract:
A vehicular navigation apparatus, which is equipped with a help function, for outputting guidance information for travel to a desired destination includes an input unit having desired destination input means, present position input means and help function input means, a memory unit for storing desired destination information, and a display unit for outputting the guidance information in response to input information from the input unit, wherein the memory unit is provided with a non-volatile RAM, with necessary information being saved in an area of the non-volatile RAM when a help function is called by the help function input means. Help function items are provided for the following occasions: when the driver wishes to input or change a departure point and then depart from that point; when the driver wishes to change a desired destination while en route to a formerly set destination; when the driver strays off course while en route to a desired destination and cannot determine his present position without returning to the point at which the vehicle went off course; when a course cannot be travelled because of road construction or the like; when traffic becomes heavy and the driver wishes to change from one route to another to avoid congestion, and when the driver wishes to temporarily leave the course and then return to the course at the same point.
Abstract:
A navigation apparatus having road system data 6 which represents information of connections and coordinates of intersections and roads between intersections, a travel distance sensor 2, steering angle sensor 3, a present position calculating module 4 for calculating the present position with a unit distance between an intersection and the terminal intersection of a going-out road selected at the former intersection. The apparatus is further provided with a module 15 for generating data on the direction of traveling to a destination point at respective intersections, and a guidance outputting module 5. Traveling direction data is made in response to inputting of the destination point, the present position is determined by selecting a going-out road with the present position calculating module with respect to each intersection, and guidance data on the traveling direction at the terminal intersection of the present road is thereafter output. When a present position is input, the present position is calculated from data on the corresponding road, the travel distance, and the steering angle. Similarly, at the terminal intersection of this road, another road extending in the traveling direction is selected from the road system data. The present position is also calculated with respect to this road.
Abstract:
A navigation apparatus for navigating a vehicle in accordance with a preset course while measuring distance travelled and steering angle is characterized by presetting distance information for guidance along the course, and outputting guidance relating to the pertinent distance information in the form of travelling conditions corresponding to the preset distance information. Distance information for guiding a driver along the course is preset. Therefore, even if it is a long distance to an intersection at which the next turn is to be made, whenever the vehicle has traveled a fixed distance the driver is unfailingly supplied with distance information relating to the intersection at which the next turn is to be made and with distance information relating to distinguishing features seen along the course, such as facilities and scenery, during the time the vehicle is travelling between the intersections. Thus, if a long distance must be travelled to reach the intersection at which the next turn is to be made, the driver is frequently supplied with guidance relating to distance information while traveling. This makes it possible for the driver to verify the course and assures that the driver can drive the vehicle at ease without requiring that he be aware of the distance to the intersection at which the next turn is to be made.
