    摘要: In a CDMA data communication system capable of variable rate transmission, utilization of beam switching techniques decreases the average interference caused by transmissions of a base station to subscriber stations within a cell, and in neighboring cells. Base stations utilize multiple transmit antennas, each transmitting signals at controlled amplitudes and phases, to form transmit signal corresponding to sector divisions. Data and reference signals are transmitted along sector division beams that alternate according to fixed time slots in order to increase system capacity and data rates by maximizing carrier-to-interference ratios (C/I) measured at subscriber stations.

    摘要: A system and method is taught for controlling a power level of transmissions in a communication system. A first station of the communication system transmits signals on a communication channel and a pilot channel. A second station of the communication system measures a signal to noise ratio of the received signal, determines an expected signal to noise ratio of the received signal, determines an indicator in accordance with said measured signal to noise ratio and the expected signal to noise ratio, and transmits the indicator. The indicator is received at the first station the indicator and determines the power level of the next transmission according to said received indicator. Additionally, methods and systems for the measurement of the signal to noise ratio of the received signal, the determination of the expected signal to noise ratio of the received signal, and the determination of the indicator are disclosed.

    摘要: In a wireless communication system (10) a method and apparatus for inhibiting data transmissions during a data service outage at the access terminal (16). The access terminal (16) transmits an outage indicator to the access network (12) prior to the outage. A data service outage may be due to a page monitor of the voice portion of the system, or to frequency searching during which the access terminal (AT) is not available to receive data. The access network (12) does not transmit data during the outage. In one embodiment, the indicator is a DRC null cover. In an alternate embodiment, the indicator is a DRC having a zero data rate.

    摘要: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for allowing a base station or base station controller to adjust transmissions to fixed location subscribers in closed-loop communication systems. In a closed-loop communication system, a base station exchanges signals with both fixed location and mobile user stations. When a user or subscriber initially registers with the base station, the base station determines a status of this subscriber based on, for example, an electronic serial number transmitted to the base station. The base station compares the electronic serial number to a database (Home Location Register) which determines whether the user corresponds to a fixed station or a mobile station. If the user is a fixed station, then the base station lowers nominal and minimum power level thresholds. Based on the lowered thresholds, the base station thereafter transmits forward link signals to the fixed station at a lower power level. As a result, the base station can increase its capacity due to the lower overall power rate.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for extending the sequence numbering range for a selective repeat transmission protocol is described. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, data frames are transmitted including an eight-bit sequence number and a one-bit retransmit flag. The one bit retransmit flag indicates whether the frame is newly transmitted or retransmitted due to a failed first transmission. The transmit and receive systems each maintain a twelve-bit sequence number referred to as a "long sequence numbers" comprised of the eight-bit sequence number transmitted with each frame and a four-bit extension. The long sequence number is transmitted within control frames and the eight-bit sequence number is transmitted within the data frames.

    摘要: A method and system incorporating the use of interference cancellation during synchronized demodulation of a code division multiple access (CDMA) signal is described. A wireless communications receiver uses synchronized demodulation techniques to estimate the data contained in multiple orthogonal sub-channels of multiple CDMA signals. In response to these estimates an ideal waveform is constructed for each CDMA signal. These ideal waveforms are subtracted from the original signal received to form an interference-cancelled version of the original signal which is used when demodulating individual orthogonal sub-channels.
