摘要: A multi-position rotary valve system is useable with a disposable fluid transfer set for carrying out a sequence of steps to implement a drain and fill procedure in connection with peritoneal dialysis. A method of carrying out peritoneal dialysis includes utilizing a rotary, multi-position, valve system in conjunction with a fluid flow transfer set having a plurality of flexible fluid flow conduits. The valve system provides for systematically opening and closing the respective fluid flow conduits in a predetermined sequence for the purpose of carrying out a drain and fill procedure of the type associated with peritoneal dialysis.

摘要: A method of forming a unitary, sterile fluid dispensing assembly includes forming a fluid-filled container with a vinyl disposing port and forming a fluid transfer set with a vinyl spike connector. The spike connector is inserted into the vinyl disposing port thereby placing the set in fluid flow communication with the fluid in the container. The assembly is sterilized in an autoclave. The heat of sterilization melds at least a surface portion of the vinyl spike connector and softens an interior adjacent surface portion of the port on the container. After sterilization, the transfer set is permanently bonded to the container. The presence of the fluid in the transfer set during sterilization prevents fusing and closing of the lumens of the set due to the heat of sterilization.

摘要: In a container defining a flexible wall, means for sealingly receiving a puncture member through the wall which comprises an insert member positioned within the container. The insert member defines an aperture for sealingly receiving the puncture member after penetration through the wall. The aperture provides flow communication between the container interior and a puncture member received in the aperture. Thus, access may be provided to a container which has no conventional tubular port carried on its exterior. Optionally, tape means may be removably adhered to the flexible wall so that removal of the tape means exposes a clean surface through which the puncture member can penetrate.

摘要: Containers used for storing and dispensing liquids for medical applications and formed in a one-piece, molded construction include a neck defining a dispensing outlet and an annular lip, a closure for the outlet and a frangible section coupling the closure to the neck. An article of manufacture and a method are provided where a frangible section couples the closure to the neck and defines an annular channel between the outlet lip and the closure. Completing the article of manufacture and method, the neck has an overmold which engages the closure whereby the molding of the overmold may tend to reduce the bio-burden at the area of contact of the overmold and the neck and whereby displacement of the overmold ruptures the frangible section permitting removal of the overmold and closure for opening of the container.

摘要: A pad of elastomeric material having a softness of no more than about durometer 30 Shore 00. The pad may carry adhesive for adhering the pad to a surface, either directly or indirectly through an envelope which surrounds the pad and carries the adhesive. Such a pad exhibits hemostatic and leak prevention properties against needle puncture holes in the skin or the wall of a hollow medical device. Particularly, hemostasis may be prevented with low pressure application of the pad to the skin. The pad may be previously applied to the skin of the patient or a wall of a medical device such as tubing or a solution bag, and the needle may then penetrate both the pad and the skin or medical device wall, to make a resealable puncture with leakage reduction and hemostasis when the needle is withdrawn.

摘要: A pad of elastomeric material having a softness of typically no more than about durometer 50 Shore 00. The pad may carry adhesive and/or a housing for adhering the pad to a surface, either manually, or by adhesive tape, or another strap.

摘要: Device and methods for separating a scab from a vascular access site are disclosed. The devices include providing a scab separation device having a point for initial separation of a portion of a scab from a patient's flesh, and a series of inclined surfaces leading from the point to lift and separate the scab from the access site. The scab separation device is provided with a cover so that the device is maintained as sterile. In a preferred embodiment, the scab separation device is provided as a set or assembly with a needle or needle set and, in a more preferred embodiment, the scab separation device cover is also used as a cover for a needle to maintain sterility both of an operative end of the separation device and of the needle.

摘要: A soft hemostasis pad of elastomeric material having a hardness of no more than about 50 Shore 00 and an upper surface of raised profile, such as a dome. The pad may be connected by a hinge with another, generally flat-bottom pad of similar elastomeric material and hardness of no more than about 50 Shore 00. The pad may rest on the skin and be penetrated by a needle or other cannula. The pad with the raised profile may then be placed over on top of the needle, for improved hemostasis and sealing when the cannula is removed and before, facilitated by the application of gentle pressure, such as by tape that holds the pads in place.
