The medical balloon having a stent mounting region, with a stent being disposed about at least a portion of the stent mounting region. The stent mounting region having a middle portion, a first end portion adjacent to the middle portion and a second end portion adjacent to the middle portion. The middle portion having a middle portion diameter, the first end portion having a first end portion diameter, the second end portion having a second end portion diameter. In the non-inflated state the middle portion diameter being different from the first end portion diameter and the second end portion diameter, in the inflated state the middle portion diameter being substantially the same as the first end portion diameter and the second end portion diameter.

    摘要: The present invention relates generally to elongate support members, preferably for use with a catheter for performing medical procedures including percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty. An elongate support member, comprising a proximal end, a distal end, is disclosed. The proximal end of the elongate support member, is formed to define a plurality of flanges. A linkage connects the flanges, and a lumen within the shaft defined by connecting the flanges. The elongate support member comprises an improved catheter shaft design that maintains pushability, flexibility, and torquability while limiting the kinking.

    摘要: The invention relates to a medical device, such as a stent or a balloon catheter that includes an expandable body portion which has an exterior surface that contacts a vessel wall during treatment. The medical device includes a first coating disposed over at least a portion of the exterior surface. The first coating includes a therapeutic substance that is intended for controlled release from the exterior surface. The medical device further includes a second coating overlaying at least a substantial portion of the first coating. The second coating includes a material that is generally impervious to elution of the therapeutic substance therethrough when the body portion is inserted into the vessel lumen. The material of the second coating is relatively inelastic so that the second coating fractures during expansion of the body portion to allow elution of the therapeutic substance through fissures formed in the second coating.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a medical device for insertion into the body wherein the device has at least one surface which periodically comes into contact with a second surface. The first surface comprises an improved lubricious coating having a first hydrogel layer and a second hydrophobic top coating which prevents the hydrogel coating from prematurely absorbing too much moisture. The hydrophobic top coating comprises at least one hydrophilic surfactant which acts as a carrier to facilitate removal of the hydrophobic top coating upon entry into an aqueous environment.
