    摘要: Permanent electromagnetic (EM) monitoring of the regions around and between wells may employ a casing string positioned within a borehole through the subsurface formations of interest. At least two passivated electrodes are mounted on the casing string to sense electric fields in the formation. Though only capacitively coupled to the formation, the passivated electrodes nevertheless provide a potential difference to an electro-optical transducer, which in turn modifies a property of the light passing along an optical fiber attached to the casing string. An interface unit senses the modified property to derive a measure of the electric field between each pair of passivated electrodes. The passivated electrodes have a contact surface that is conductive but for one or more layers of non-reactive (and thus electrically insulating) materials. Illustrative materials include metal oxides, polymers and ceramics, but the layers are preferably kept very thin to maximize the coupling capacitance with the formation.

    摘要: Embodiments set forth in this disclosure providing techniques for determining formation parameters, such as horizontal resistivity (Rh), vertical resistivity (Rv), and dip, in high angle and horizontal wells using non-directional resistivity measurements. For example, a method is provided that may include using an electromagnetic logging tool to acquire non-directional resistivity measurements in a wellbore of a high angle or horizontal well. The method may also include defining a processing window that corresponds to a measurement point of the electromagnetic logging tool along a well trajectory that intersects a at least one bed boundary between two layers of a subsurface formation. The method may also include defining a formation structure and defining an initial set of formation parameters for each layer in the formation structure. Furthermore, the method may include inverting the formation parameters for each layer.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for simultaneously obtaining quantitative measurements of vertical and horizontal resistivity and permittivity formation parameters by firing, using at least one transmitter in each of a horizontally and vertically polarized array on opposite sides of a drill collar, signals in the direction of a downhole formation, the fired signals from the transmitters in the arrays being fired simultaneously and engaging the downhole formation. The apparatus and method continues by receiving, using at least one receiver in each of the arrays, signals associated with the fired signals after the fired signals have engaged the downhole formation, where the received signals represent apparent formation data. The apparatus and method further involves determining, using the measured apparent formation data, the true formation data including one or more vertical and horizontal formation parameters.

    摘要: A method for enhancing the recovery of hydrocarbon deposit includes the step of sensing a material property of an underground volume. A three-dimensional map identifying the spatial variation in the sensed material property of the underground volume is generated. Propagating electromagnetic radiation is transmitted in the volume based on the map. The propagating electromagnetic radiation transmission is varied in at least one of frequency, polarization, wavelength, frequency, amplitude, mode, and phase in response to the variation in the material property of a region within the volume to which the propagating electromagnetic radiation is directed. Accordingly, the volume is heated in a spatially varying manner to heat material in the volume and thereby induce the flow of hydrocarbon deposits from the volume.

An integrally formed, monolithic, dielectric layer sounds the elongate electrical conductor and includes a first enlarged diameter end portion surrounding the first end of the elongate electrical conductor and is positioned within the opening. A reduced diameter portion surrounds the medial portion of the elongate electrical conductor.

    摘要: Various resistivity logging tools, systems, and methods are disclosed. At least some system embodiments include a logging tool and at least one processor. The logging tool provides transmitter-receiver coupling measurements that include at least direct coupling along the longitudinal tool axis (Czz), direct coupling along the perpendicular axis (Cxx or Cyy), and cross coupling along the longitudinal and perpendicular axes (Cxz, Cyz, Czx, or Czy). The processor performs a multi-step inversion of said transmitter-receiver coupling measurements to obtain values for model parameters. Based at least in part on the model parameters, the processor determines borehole corrections for the transmitter-receiver coupling measurements and may further provide one or more logs derived from the borehole corrected transmitter-receiver coupling measurements. In at least some embodiments the logging tool assembly further collects borehole size measurements and measurements of borehole fluid resistivity for use in performing the inversion and determining the borehole corrections.
