摘要： A chemical recovery furnace (10) having air nozzles (12) is provided with apparatus (22) for keeping the nozzles clear of combustion product deposits, and also accurately controlling the airflow through such nozzles. Each nozzle has slots (20) in the sidewalls thereof, which slots are of decreasing width, the smallest width (38) being closest to the furnace. A plug (22) is slidable within each nozzle to control airflow, and also remove deposits from within the nozzle.

摘要： A flue control device for slowing the rate at which heated exhaust gases rise through an exhaust stack comprises a cylindrical housing enclosed by end caps, with an offset inlet and outlet being positioned in opposite end caps. The interior of the housing defines a baffle chamber, and a baffle mechanism is positioned in the baffle chamber between the inlet and outlet. The baffle mechanism comprises two overlapping plates, each plate having a prominent flange extending in an upstream direction relative to the flow of gases through the baffle chamber. The flanges interrupt and slow the swirling circular flow of gases as they pass through the baffle chamber. The baffle and housing are of a size such that the cross-sectional area of the restricted portion of the housing adjacent the baffle is at least as large as the cross-sectional area of the exhaust stack. Thus, the flue control device changes the direction of the gases and disrupts laminar or smooth flow of the gases to slow the flow of exhaust gases through the exhaust stack, without necessarily restricting such flow.

摘要： There is disclosed an improved flue box assembly for use in conjunction with a heating plant, the flue box having a housing with an interior diametric opening substantially greater than the exhaust gas inlet to and outlet from the interior of the housing, and provided with a damper plate being pivotally mounted within the housing and movable between an open position and a closed position, the damper plate further having a flue opening positioned therein, the improvement consisting of a cap pivotally mounted on the housing adjacent the outlet opening thereof, the cap adapted to pivotally move between a closed position occluding the outlet opening of the housing and an open position leaving the outlet opening unobstructed, and adjustable counterbalancing means associated with the cap for adjusting the relative pressure necessary to move the cap into an open and closed position respectively in relation to the force exerted by flue gases escaping through the outlet opening of the housing, thus providing for improved heat transfer and restoration of proper combustion zone balance in the appliance.

摘要： A rectangular air inlet control plate is pivotably mounted in the air intake passage of a forced air furnace to control the air intake volume and, thereby, insure optimal combustion of the fuel in the furnace. The plate is adjustably counter-balanced to a closed position and is further adjusted to allow the optimum volume of air intake during operation of the forced air furnace. The rectangular shape of the plate provides for fast opening and closing of the air intake during startup and shutdown transients, since the actuation angle of the plate is reduced in proportion to its length. The plate is mounted in a funnel-shaped air intake structure to reduce the noise and allow a maximum volume of air to enter the intake. A windscreen is mounted on the funnel-shaped air intake in order to act as a turbulence breaker for the incoming air, and also to prevent ingestion of large debris into the air intake.

摘要： An afterburner for a wood stove for use as a retrofit assembly comprises a rectangular housing having openings in the upper and lower surfaces provided with cylindrical collars for cooperation with the flue duct and with the opening in the top of the wood stove respectively. The openings are positioned at the rear of the housing so as to provide a forward section spaced from the openings. A catalytic combuster mounted in a cylindrical support is movable from a position directly above the opening in the bottom surface into the front section by a manually operable handle extending through the front face of the housing. A baffle mounted on the support and arranged at a shallow angle to the horizontal overlies the major part of the combuster so as to direct gases into the front section of the housing for heat exchange contact with the walls thereof.

摘要： A damper and air flow control for use with fireplaces or stoves having a plurality of heat tubes extending through the exhaust passage for smoke and other products of combustion includes a plurality of slats secured in spaced side-by-side relation to one another. Each slat is adapted to be positioned above a heat tube when the damper is in open position so as to leave the spaces between the heat tubes substantially unobstructed. Each slat has a width greater than the space between the heat tube over which it is positioned when the damper is open and an adjacent heat tube so that the slats may be moved to a position where they substantially block the spaces between the heat tubes. Control apparatus is provided to move the slats between open, closed, or partially closed positions.
