    Abstract: In a method for the combustion management in firing installations, in which a primary combustion gas quantity is conveyed through the fuel into a primary combustion area, part of the waste gas flow is extracted in the rear grate area and returned to the combustion process in the form of internal recirculation gas. In this case, no secondary combustion gas is supplied between the grate and the supply of the internal recirculation gas. A firing installation for carrying out this method features nozzles above the firing grate such that no air supply is arranged between the firing grate and the nozzles.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a combustion system. The combustion system includes a fireplace which has a fire base, a primary combustion zone for pyrolysising and/or combusting a biomass fuel, and a secondary combustion zone for combusting gases and/or particulate matter produced from the pyrolysis and/or combustion of the biomass fuel. The combustion system also includes an exhaust flue, the exhaust flue extending to a position near to, or adjacent, the secondary combustion zone and/or the fire base. The invention may be particularly suitable for use in relation to wood burners, either by retrofitting to existing wood burners or by incorporating into new wood burners.

    Abstract: An inclined hearth combustor which generally includes a primary combustion chamber having a plurality of stepped hearths, a secondary combustion chamber in communication with the primary combustion chamber and a boiler having an inlet in communication with the secondary combustion chamber. The secondary combustion chamber includes a refractory-lined cyclone separator for removing fly ash from combustion gases exiting the primary combustion chamber and the boiler inlet is surrounded by the cyclone separator. The primary combustion chamber may further include an ash transfer ram movably disposed between two stepped hearths, wherein the ash transfer ram includes a top layer of refractory material extending rearwardly from a leading edge thereof. The ash transfer ram may further include a plurality of V-shaped wheels attached to a bottom surface thereof, a replaceable wear plate disposed on a side surface thereof and/or a wiper blade fixed on a forward face thereof. At least one hearth may include two spaced rows of air feed-tubes longitudinally embedded therein for delivering a combustion gas into the combustion chamber. The air-feed tubes may intersect with an air distribution plenum for simultaneously delivering the combustion gas to the air feed-tubes. The primary combustion chamber may further include a reciprocating loader ram movably disposed on the top surface of the top-most hearth for pushing combustible material on the top-most hearth, wherein the loader ram has a bottom surface and at least one longitudinally extending replaceable wear strip disposed thereon.

    Abstract: A hearth particle bed incineration furnace is provided in which the hearth particles form a sloped layer bed which moves in the incinerating furnace without being fluidized. The furnace is structured so that the combustion gas is prevented from flowing upward through the inlet for the materials to be incinerated. The structure for preventing the backflow of the combustion gas includes a sidewall which is connected to the incinerated materials inlet, baffles and a member which restrains the upward backflow of combustion exhaust gas. This restraining member is made up of an air intake opening and the air introduced therein is heated through heat exchange with a combustion gas and introduced into the combustion chamber. This allows the amount of air to be introduced in the combustion chamber to be increased and the backflow of combustion exhaust gas to be reduced or eliminated.

    Abstract: Improvements for an incinerator system including double reburn tunnels, an excitor within a reburn tunnel, a choker for closing off part of a reburn tunnel, a grate near the incinerator's inlet to permit the drying and initial combustion of refuse, an ash scoop which remains out of the water during most of its operation. The use of dual reburn tunnels, along with a damper that permits the closure of at least one of them, permits the efficient and environmentally acceptable utilization of the main incinerator chamber even with minimal refuse contained there. With less refuse, only one reburn unit operates; it will still have sufficient heat and throughput to maintain, with minimal auxiliary fuel, the temperatures needed for complete combustion. An excitor, or solid stationary object placed within the reburn tunnel, permits the retention and reflection of the heat generated by the burning to assure complete combustion of all hydrocarbons within the reburn unit. Additionally, the air utilized in the reburn unit may enter through the excitor for the efficient distribution and concomitant combustion.
