Systems and methods for constructing electric motors in which a stator core includes inner and outer portions that enable slots for magnet windings to be open during construction and closed in the completed motor. One embodiment comprises a method in which an inner stator core having a plurality of slots is formed by stacking a set of laminations. The slots are open radially outward from an axis of the inner stator core and which are configured to accommodate turns of magnet wire. After the magnet wire is positioned in the open slots, an outer stator core comprising stacked laminations is positioned around the inner stator core, enclosing the slots. The inner and outer stator cores are then positioned within a housing and assembled into a downhole motor.

The invention relates to a synchronous machine with hybrid energisation, in particular a generator for supplying the electrical system of a motor vehicle, comprising a laminated stator (16) with a multiphase stator winding (18) and a laminated rotor (20) with an energiser winding (29), which together with permanent magnets (24,25) around the rotor periphery, provides the energisation for the machine. According to the invention, favorable electrical and magnetic properties and an improvement in manufacturing conditions of the machine can be achieved, wherein the grooves (40) for the energiser windings (29) are disproportionately enlarged in relation to the groove base (44) and are preferably bell-shaped.

In this method, each slot has a slot peripheral wall and a slot opening, covered with an insulation coating made of an electrical insulation material. The slot peripheral wall SW has a slot bottom wall, a pair of slot side walls opposing to each other and continuing to end portions of the slot bottom wall. The insulation coating is formed continuously from the slot bottom wall to the pair of slot side walls, and a pair of holding grooves opposing to each other is formed in the insulation coating at the vicinity of the slot opening.
