Abstract:
A pneumatic strut for use as an opening power assist mechanism for a motor vehicle tailgate has a piston rod extending from a piston contained within a cylinder. The piston separates the cylinder into two work chambers, each containing a gas charge under pressure. A bypass opening is active to connect the work chambers during the initial opening displacement of the tailgate to automatically open the tailgate through a first opening angle range. A second valve can be externally actuated to connect the two work chambers to further selectively open the tailgate into a second opening angle range. To close the tailgate, a third, directionally dependent valve can automatically connect the two work chambers during the closing displacement of the tailgate.
Abstract:
A device for releasably holding a door or window comprising two components. The first component (1) is attached to the door or window and the second component (7) is attached to the floor or wall. The two components are releasably engageable with each other. One of the components has a means (10) to cushion the opening force of a door or window, limited movement of an opened door or window, and cushion and direct the engagement of one component with the other. This device has the advantages of releasably holding a door or window and cushioning the door or window during engagement.
Abstract:
A door hinge having the is capable of not only automatically closing the door but also controlling the closing speed. The hinge includes a first hinge part, a second hinge part, a hinge-shaft on which the two hinge parts are pivotably mounted, a spring for returning the second hinge part to a determind position in relation to the first hinge part, and a buffer assembly arranged between the two hinge parts.
Abstract:
A spring loaded door hinge comprising a rod that moves with the door as the door pivots. Attached to the door frame is a flange. The door is attached to the rod by means of collars. The tails of the coil springs extend from the rod so that they may, depending upon their position, be in position to strike the door frame flange thereby preventing a large shock from being transferred to the door if it is swung open violently. Also the spring hinge allows the door to be easily opened initially with resistance to the door opening being controlled by the positioning of the tails of the coil springs. The springs are distributed vertically to prevent twisting of the door and frame. The tails of the spring coils are hooked so that the can engage the door frame flange if extreme force is placed upon the door when opening. The hooks set a limit as to how far the door may be opened and prevent the spring tail from binding between the flange and the spring coil.
Abstract:
Door control apparatus is provided for a sliding door for use with a boat or a ship. The door control apparatus is unbiased in either direction and will substantially maintain any position in which it is placed, except during extreme rolling or pitching of the boat or ship due to heavy weather conditions. The door control apparatus provides for equal but opposite force to open the door as to close the door. The door control apparatus includes piston and cylinder means with fixed orifices. Other than the piston its associated parts, there are no moving parts to the mechanism.
Abstract:
An hydraulic door closer has a motor/pump component to assist opening the door by supplying oil under pressure to the closer cylinder. The component is activated by a switch sensitive to the turning of the closer pinion shaft as the door is moved out of its frame. Further, the distance which the door must move until the switch activates the motor/pump component is adjustable. The hydraulic circuitry is conveniently embodied in a single manifold block.
Abstract:
An electronic image printing apparatus is provided on the front face thereof with an improved downloading film access door assembly. The door assembly pivots substantially under the force of gravity from an upright closed position to an extended fully open position wherein a film cassette may be inserted into and/or withdrawn from a film cassette receiving carriage which is disposed for controlled reciprocal sliding translation during the printing process. A dashpot is provided for dampening the pivotal movement of the film loading access door so that it progressively decelerates as it approaches its open extended position so as to gradually come to a stop without substantial vibration or shock. The dashpot also includes a spring which extends through the back wall thereof to counter the increase in the weight induced opening torque as the door pivots downwardly. There is also provided a latch assembly including a pivoting lever member which is cammed by the film access door assembly to latch the film cassette receiving carriage in its initial position when the door assembly is open to inhibit accidental movement of the carriage during film cassette insertion and/or withdrawal.
Abstract:
A mechanical disk-type door closure wherein one end of the closure is connected to a door and the other end is pivotally connected to a door jam such that when the door pivots about its hinge. The closure includes a rod upon which a rack is formed to cause a pinion to rotate in one direction and which is in mesh with a gear so as to move the pinion out of contact with the rack. When the door closes, a spring moves the pinion into engagement with the rack and the pinion turns in a direction to rotate the gear which is subjected braking pressure so as to adjust the resistance to the closing motion of the door.
Abstract:
A door closer and holder comprises a cylinder shell having a piston sealingly reciprocable therein. A spring biases the piston toward one end of the shell, and the piston is connected through the ususal apparatus to the door. At the one end the operating rod of a shuttle valve extends into the shell and is engaged by the piston as it approaches the end. The shuttle valve selectively directs the return fluid flow through sweep- and latch-control valves. The assembly also includes a solenoid-operated "bullet" which closes off the return flow to hold the door open. The angle of the openness at which the door is held may be selected by setting a cam on the holder drive pinion which engages a switch to activate the solenoid.
Abstract:
A stopper device for being mountable upon a door knob, and which serves as a bumper for limiting the pivotal travel of the door, thereby preventing a hard door knob bumping against a wall and damaging the same, the stopper device being made of a resilient material, such as either acrylic, plastic or rubber, which absorbs the shock upon impact with the wall, in order to not injure the same, the stopper consisting of a sheath that encloses the door knob.
