Abstract:
An arrangement for phase angle control of converters which is intended to deliver to a control device for the converter rectifier a signal to set the phase angle of the control pulses includes a control circuit to the input side of which is delivered the difference between the real value and a desired value of the converter current. When the control circuit is stationary, the difference between the current values as well as the signal delivered to the control device is zero. The circuit includes a compensator connected between the input side and the output side of the control circuit, the input side of the compensator being connected to the control circuit over a connecting member which is briefly connected in by the control pulses to the converter rectifiers. The output side of the compensator is connected to the output side of the control circuit in such a way that the output signal of the compensator is subtracted from the original output signal of the control circuit.
Abstract:
A billet, formed of a hardenable aluminium alloy containing substantial amounts of undissolved constituents other than aluminium and which has not been solution-heat treated, is hydrostatically extruded through a die at such a rate that, considering the reduction in cross-section and the rate of extrusion, the extruded product attains a temperature greater than the dissolving temperature of the constituents. The temperature of the extruded product is kept at substantially the dissolving temperature for a time sufficient to product dissolution and is thereafter rapidly cooled.
Abstract:
A press for hydrostatic extrusion of tubes has a pressure chamber containing a pressure generating fluid and a spacer element arranged in the cylinder with a mandrel axially fixed at its inner end by the spacer tube. The mandrel has a point part cooperating with the die in the cylinder. This point part of the die has a smaller cross-section than the rear part of the die, which rear part is secured to a support from which it is separate. The joint between the support and the inner end of the die is sealed. The pressure exerted by the pressure fluid on the larger part of the mandrel in a direction away from the die is greater than the frictional force between the billet being extruded and the point of the mandrel.
Abstract:
A vertical furnace for treating material at high temperature and under high pressure has a stand into which a cylindrical pressure chamber is introduced. This stand is formed of a high pressure cylinder with top and bottom end closures which project into the cylinder. A furnace chamber is formed within the pressure cylinder by two hat-shaped parts with insulating material between them. These parts rest on an annular portion of the bottom closure. The inner part of the bottom closure is removable for charging the furnace.
Abstract:
An information system includes an information carrier and a reading unit. The information carrier includes an inner and an outer layer, the outer layer constituting a protective casing surrounding the inner layer and hiding the information. The inner part is formed of at least one electrically conducting closed loop in which an electrical current is intended to be induced, this loop having a plurality of openings therein in the same plane. These openings are so positioned that at least two parallel current paths are produced partly in the loop. One of the current paths is decreased in its average area by at least one interruption so that the other current path will carry the main part of the current induced through the loops. A combination of these interruptions forms the information on the carrier. The reading units include an arrangement for detecting differences in the currents in said paths.
Abstract:
A high voltage switching device is operated by a compressed gas valve having an electrodynamic operating means. The operating means comprises a stationary coil which is inductively connected to a short-circuit winding supported by the movable member of said valve. To operate the switching device a capacitor located at high potential is connected to said coil through a photoelectric switching member.
Abstract:
A semiconductor device comprises semiconductor elements arranged side by side and provided with hollow cooling bodies. The cooling bodies are joined to each other by a connection conduit for the coolant which is flexible and which insulates the cooling bodies from each other electrically. The connection conduit comprises a tube of insulating inorganic material and a bellows of metallic material fixed to each end of the tube.
Abstract:
For hydrostatic extrusion, a press is provided having a yoke. One of the end pieces of the yoke carries a die receiving block having an extrusion passage therethrough. A pressure cylinder is mounted within the yoke for movement towards and from the die receiving block. Slidable in the cylinder of the high pressure cylinder is a billet holder which divides the space within the cylinder into two parts. The billet holder has a spring controlled valve which prevents passage of pressure fluid therethrough until a predetermined pressure differential exists between the chambers. A punch is provided for sliding into and out of the high pressure cylinder on the opposite side thereof from the die. The die and billet are first positioned between the high pressure cylinder and the die receiving block, after which the high pressure cylinder is moved to enclose the billet. Then pressure is applied in the high pressure cylinder on the side of the punch to move the billet holder against the billet and move the billet into engagement with the die. Then the pressure behind the billet holder is increased so that the fluid passes through the billet holder and thereafter further increased by advancing the punch into the high pressure cylinder so that the fluid exerts sufficient pressure on the billet to extrude it. Before opening the high pressure cylinder, the punch is withdrawn and cool pressure fluid is admitted into the end of the cylinder remote from the punch.
Abstract:
Valve means for ladles or furnaces, preferably of channel type, provided with at least one bottom tap hole. This means comprises a magnetic circuit with an ''''air gap'''' in the hole and with a flux direction straight across the flow direction in said hole. Current conductors are also arranged to conduct electric current straight across the stream, perpendicular to the flux, and a force is thus produced in the melt in the hole directed upwards or downwards and depending on the law of magnetic force. The invention also includes an embodiment with similar means in a channel type furnace, but used for circulating molten metal in the channels of the furnace.
Abstract:
In a switching device for HVDC comprising two series-connected breaker units, the operating release of the device comprises a time delay means controlled by the voltage of the HVDC network. When breaking at voltages above a certain level, one of the breaker units opens a predetermined time before the other one, thus reducing the switching over-voltage. Below said level, however, the breaker units open simultaneously.
