Abstract:
Laser beam irradiation areas are provided in a load curve portion and an angle adjustment portion of a suspension. The laser beam irradiation areas are oriented in a direction in which the suspension is to be bent. A laser beam having a predetermined length and a predetermined shape is irradiated onto each laser beam irradiation area.
Abstract:
In a cold coil forming process, a pitch control tool is moved in synchronism with the displacement of the outer diameter control roller so as to form a coil spring having a straight and oblique axial line, and, at the same time, maintain a pitch of the coil wire substantially constant substantially over an entire length thereof. Thus, the method of the present invention can be implemented by using a conventional coiling machine only if the outer diameter control roller and the pitch control tool can be adjusted as required by the present invention. In particular, the pitch of the coil spring can be kept constant over each turn of the coil wire without regard to the variation in the radius of curvature of the coil spring.
Abstract:
Provided is a compact power actuator which is simple in structure, reliable in operation, and easy to install. The power actuator comprises a piston assembly which is received in a fixed cylinder for either directly or indirectly engaging a driven member, and a propellant for rapidly increasing the inner pressure of the cylinder to push the piston assembly outward so that the driven member may be instantaneously driven. A spring is interposed between the piston assembly and the propellant to urge the piston assembly in the projecting direction. The front end of the propellant fits into the central opening so that the available space may be filly utilized. Therefore, the size of the power actuator can be reduced, and the required amount of the pyrotechnic material for the propellant can be reduced due to the reduced initial volume of the chamber for the expansion of the generated gas.
Abstract:
Hot-melt webs are located on an outer surface of a pad member and an inner surface of a cover member, individually. The pad member and the cover member are heated to melt the hot-melt webs by means of heaters from the sides opposite the webs, individually. As fibrous hot-melt adhesive elements are cut at every turn and separated to insular pieces, they are distributed like mist drops in the outer surface of the pad member and the inner surface of the cover member. Thereafter, the pad member and the cover member are superposed and pressurized so that they are bonded to each other.
Abstract:
A suspension comprises a base plate, a load beam, and a hinge member. An extending portion is provided on the side of the hinge member. A step forming portion is formed between the base plate mounting portion and the extending portion. The step forming portion has a difference in level such that the extending portion is situated inside the base plate mounting portion with respect to its thickness direction. An end portion of the flexure fixed on the extending portion is situated inside the surface of the base plate mounting portion with respect to the thickness direction.
Abstract:
A head suspension for a disk drive has a base (19) to be attached to a carriage, a load beam (21) having a rigid part (27) and a resilient part (29) supported by the base, to apply load on a data read/write head (13) arranged at a front end (27a) of the rigid part, and a flexure (49) attached to the load beam and supporting the head. The rigid part has a multilayer structure consisting of at least three layers including metal layers (28a, 28b) and a resin layer (28c) interposed between the metal layers. The number of layers of the resilient part is smaller than that of the rigid part.
Abstract:
A base plate chain blank, which is used in the manufacture of a suspension for a hard disk drive, comprises a plurality of base plates arranged in a line at given pitches and a scrap portion connecting the base plates. The base plate chain blank is put in a predetermined position on a load beam chain blank. The base plates are welded individually to load beams that are formed on the load beam chain blank. Thereafter, the base plates and the scrap portion are cut off by means of a die, whereby the scrap portion is separated. The base plate chain blank has notches arranged along cuttable portions at which the scrap portion is to be cut.
Abstract:
A suspension for disc drive comprises a base portion, a beam portion formed of the same material as the base portion and made thinner than the base portion by partial etching, and a hinge member connecting the base portion and the beam portion to each other. In manufacturing this suspension, a platelike semi-finished suspension, which integrally includes a base portion, a beam portion, and a connecting portion connecting the base portion and the beam portion to each other, is first manufactured. The thickness of the beam portion of the semi-finished suspension is reduced by partial etching. Thereafter, the base portion and the beam portion are connected by means of the hinge member, and moreover, the connecting portion is separated from the base portion and the beam portion.
Abstract:
A manufacturing method for manufacturing a bellows having pleat walls with S-shaped profiles comprises a primary forming process for forming a formed bellows, a pressing process for compressing the formed bellows in the axial direction, and a stretching process for pulling the compressed bellows in the axial direction, thereby obtaining desired pitches and free length. After the stretching process is carried out, the bellows is subjected to an annealing and ageing heat-treatment process. An apparatus for manufacturing the bellows comprises a pair of molds that have their respective forming surfaces in shapes corresponding individually to the pleat walls. The die is slightly retreated away from the pleat walls just before the dies open in the diametrical direction after the pleat walls are formed.
Abstract:
A tensioner comprises shaft members that mate with each other by means of thread portions. A first shaft member is rotatable with respect to a casing and is restrained from moving in its axial direction. A second shaft member, which is restrained from rotating with respect to the casing, is movable in its axial direction. A torsion spring applies torque in a first direction to the first shaft member. A torque switching member, which can switch frictional torque in association with the rotation of the first shaft member, is provided between the first shaft member and the casing.
