Abstract:
Ultra low frequency transmissions can be used to penetrate obstructions to areas where other operation of other communication devices may be limited, such as in a mine, tunnel, or other underground location. A portable device that includes a supercapacitor, a transmitter, and an antenna can be used to communicate using ultra low frequency transmissions. In one aspect, a communication device comprises a supercapacitor; a transmitter powered by the supercapacitor; and an antenna connected to the transmitter for sending messages. In another aspect, a method for communicating comprises the steps of receiving a message to be transmitted, powering a transmitter from a charged supercapacitor, and transmitting the message via an antenna.
Abstract:
An electrical control system includes one or more master nodes that are adapted to control and monitor the operation of one or more slave nodes. The master nodes and the slave nodes are operably coupled by one or more communication interfaces, such as radio frequency, Internet Protocol, power line, or other conventional communication interfaces. A hand-held radio frequency controller includes a controller that is operably coupled to an radio frequency transceiver. The controller includes an operating system and application programs, including a device engine, a scenes engine, an events engine, a system engine, and an away engines. The device engine, scenes engine, events engine, system engine and away engine permit a user of the hand-held radio frequency controller to customize the operation of at least some of the aspects of the master and slave nodes.
Abstract:
A floor stand is disclosed for mounting an electrical box at a location above a floor between two wall studs. The floor stand has an elongate sheet metal body and at least one mounting arm attached to the body. In one embodiment, the mounting arm is bendable from a position extending lengthwise of the body to a position in which it extends generally laterally outward from the body for attachment to one of the wall studs. In another embodiment, the two mounting arms are detachable from the body and re-attachable in the stated second position. An optional cable-containment section for connection to the box-mounting section of the floor stand is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Relay devices, systems and methods for obtaining an accurate representation of a current monitored with a Rogowski coil, without integration of the Rogowski coil output voltage signal in the time domain.
Abstract:
A fault interrupter and load break switch includes a trip assembly configured to automatically open a transformer circuit electrically coupled to stationary contacts of the switch upon the occurrence of a fault condition. The fault condition causes a Curie metal element electrically coupled to at least one of the stationary contacts to release a magnetic latch. The release causes a trip rotor of the trip assembly to rotate a rotor assembly. This rotation causes ends of a movable contact of the rotor assembly to electrically disengage the stationary contacts, thereby opening the circuit. The switch also includes a handle for manually opening and closing the electrical circuit in fault and non-fault conditions. Actuation of the handle coupled to the rotor assembly via a spring-loaded rotor causes the movable contact ends to selectively engage or disengage the stationary contacts.

Abstract:
A control system for an electrical power system includes an electrical corrective device, a voltage measuring device coupled to each phase of the electric power system, a current measuring device connected between each phase of the electric power system and the electrical corrective device, and a protective device connected to outputs of the voltage measuring device and the current measuring device. The protective device includes a controller configured to detect an imbalance using the measured voltages and currents output from the voltage measuring device and the current measuring device without using or independently of other recent voltage or current measurements for other points in the electrical corrective device and independently of a neutral-ground measurement at the electrical corrective device.
Abstract:
Combination mounting plate and cover assemblies for mounting an electrical outlet box on one side of a stud in a wall are provided. The mounting plate and cover assemblies are configured to receive an additional bracket and/or outlet box on an opposite side of the stud. The combination mounting plate and cover assemblies can be single unitary members serving the multiple functions of a raised cover ring, a box support, and a secondary bracket/outlet box support. Systems including combination mounting plate and cover assemblies having an electrical box and a bracket or second outlet box attached thereto.
Abstract:
An internal combustion motor assembly, including an internal combustion motor, a starter and a battery. In addition, the motor assembly includes a capacitor assembly, a capacitor charging assembly and a conductive network, logic and controlled switching assembly adapted to place the internal combustion motor into one of a set of states. This set includes a first state in which the capacitor assembly is receiving charge from the capacitor charging assembly but is not electrically connected to the starter; a second state in which the capacitor assembly is electrically connected to and powers the starter; and a third state in which both the battery and the capacitor assembly are electrically connected to and power the starter. The logic and controlled switching assembly places the internal combustion motor assembly into the third state after it has been in the second state and a set of criteria is met.
Abstract:
A Rogowski coil assembly includes a first Rogowski coil that surrounds a conductor and generates a first voltage output signal. A second Rogowski coil also surrounds the conductor. The second Rogowski coil generates a second voltage output signal. A relay device communicates with the first and second Rogowski coils and processes the first and second voltage output signals. For example, the relay device can process the voltage output signals to calculate an amount of noise in the first and second output voltage signals and/or to minimize the amount of noise in the first and second output voltage signals.
