Abstract:
Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a distributed simultaneous transmit and receive system implements relaying without incurring the additional overhead associated with relaying and without requiring additional isolation techniques to isolate the transmit and receive circuits of the relay stations. During a first transmission resource, a base station transmits to a first relay station while a second relay station transmits to one or more mobile stations associated with the second relay station. During a second transmission resource, the base station transmits to the second relay station while the first relay station transmits to one or more mobile stations associated with the first relay station.
Abstract:
Adaptive antenna beamforming may involve a maximum signal-to-noise ratio beamforming method, a correlation matrix based beamforming method, or a maximum ray beamforming method. The adaptive antenna beamforming may be used in a millimeter-wave wireless personal area network in one embodiment.
Abstract:
Communication signals using a first and a second frequency band in a wireless network is described herein. The first frequency band may be associated with a first beamwidth while the second frequency band may be associated with a second beamwidth. A method includes transmitting, in a first frequency band by a coordinating device, an indication of a first time resource and/or first frequency resource for a communication device to identify one or more neighbor communication devices that are capable of communicating over a second frequency band, receiving, in the first frequency band by the coordinating device, link availability information for the second frequency band based at least in part on the one or more neighbor communication devices identified as being capable of communicating over the second frequency band, and transmitting, in the first frequency band, a transmission schedule to indicate to the communication device a second time resource and/or second frequency resource in which the communication device can communicate with at least one of the one or more neighbor communications devices over the second frequency band, the transmission schedule being based at least in part on the received link availability information. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.
Abstract:
Communication using a first and a second frequency band in a wireless network is described herein. The first frequency band may be associated with a first beamwidth while the second frequency band may be associated with a second beamwidth, the first beamwidth being wider than the second beamwidth.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for determining a channel quality indicator (CQI) to be used in link adaptation for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) communications. In one embodiment of the invention, the CQI is based on a set of capacity values for subcarrier components in a received OFDM signal. In another embodiment, a minimum value from a running average of the set of capacity values is used to determine the CQI.
Abstract:
In a multicarrier transmitter that transmits two or more spatial data streams, a bit distributor assigns encoded bits to the spatial data streams based on bit-loading capabilities of the streams and in a manner to intermix the bits among the spatial streams.
Abstract:
In a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multicarrier communication system, a mobile station sends a quantized time-domain representation of the channel transfer function to a base station for use by the base station in generating beamforming coefficients for use in subsequent transmissions to the mobile station. In some embodiments, the quantized time-domain representation of the channel transfer function may be generated from selected most significant rays of an initial estimated sampled channel impulse response. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.
Abstract:
A multicarrier receiver generates a quantized transmit beamformer matrix ({tilde over (V)}) for each subcarrier of a multicarrier communication channel for use by a multicarrier transmitting station. The multicarrier receiver applies a corrected receiver beamformer matrix (ŨH) to received subcarriers signals generated by signals received from the transmitting station.

Abstract:
A data rate is selected for subcarriers of each frequency and spatial channel of a slowly varying frequency selective multicarrier channel to provide uniform bit loading (UBL) for faster link adaptation. Signal to noise ratios (SNRs) for subcarriers of the multicarrier communication channel may be calculated from channel state information and a transmit power level. A throughput may be estimated for the data rates from the SNRs and one of the data rates may be selected based on the estimated throughputs.
