摘要: An iterative refinement algorithm for content-based retrieval of images based on low-level features such as textures, color histograms, and shapes that can be described by feature vectors. This technique adjusts the original feature space to the new application by performing nonlinear multidimensional scaling. Consequently, the transformed distance of those feature vectors which are considered to be similar is minimized in the new feature space. Meanwhile, the distance among clusters are maintained. User feedback is utilized to refine the query, by dynamically adjusting the similarity measure and modifying the linear transform of features, along with revising the feature vectors.

摘要: The invention provides a next generation decision support system that includes highly adaptive sensors, transport, and models to enable time critical decision making. The decision support model of the system is progressive so that not all input parameters need to be available to produce model prediction output. Input parameters of the model with the largest first order derivative values are given highest priority in data acquisition and transmission. The parameters acquired at the sensors are stored in progressive data representation formats, which later on are progressively transmitted to the decision support server. Progressive data representation, progressive transmission, and progressive model are thus three key elements that need to be integrated together. The present invention presents a method and an apparatus that form an optimized process including the three elements subject to the decision making utility function.

摘要: A method and apparatus for selecting at least one transcoding method for manipulating multimedia data for delivery on the basis of analysis of the content of the multimedia data. Many possible transcoding operations can be performed on multimedia data to adapt it to constraints in delivery and display, processing and storage of client devices. The selection of specific transcoding operations can be made by first analyzing the features, purposes and relevances of the individual multimedia objects within the multimedia documents, then by selecting the transcoding alternatives according to the results of the analysis. Based on the analysis, different transcoding algorithms can be applied to different content, less than all of the content can be transcoded, groups of multimedia objects can be transcoded, etc.

摘要: A method of adapting multimedia content to a client device, wherein the multimedia content includes one or more items and the client device has capabilities and resources associated therewith, is provided. The method includes transcoding the multimedia content into a plurality of transcoded content versions, wherein the plurality of transcoded content versions have different modalities and resolutions associated therewith. Next, the transcoded content versions that are not compatible with client device capabilities are filtered out. Then, at least a portion of the resources associated with the client device are allocated among the one or more items of the multimedia content. Lastly, one or more of the transcoded versions of the multimedia content are selected to generate a customized content based on allocation of the client device resources.

摘要: An apparatus and method for representing and retrieving multi-dimensional data such as large satellite images. Images are stored in forms that allow them to be rapidly browsed and retrieved by remote client applications in a drill-down fashion. The data can be represented and retrieved using a view element data structure that includes node elements and transition elements between nodes. The data is decomposed (in space or spatial-frequency to construct a tree-based or graph-based data structure) into view elements. A set of view elements is selected, compressed and stored without adversely impacting image view extraction or generation speed. View elements are placed into the node elements of the data structure and the transition elements indicate the processing to generate other view elements in the data structure. In a server-side view construction, the view elements are selectively retrieved from storage, decompressed, and processed to generate the views of the data. In a client-side progressive view construction, the client caches the view elements and processes them in combination with view elements retrieved from the server to generate views of the data. The data reuse at the client reduces data transmission in drill-down or roll-up browsing. Data can be ingested, read and written in units of spatial blocks and decomposed into view elements using the spatial block units. Thus, the ingestion, decomposition, compression, and view retrieval for large images can be done using computer devices that have limited storage and processing capabilities.

摘要: A fault detecting apparatus and method for a network node of an optical transmission system receives a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical signal which includes a group of optical channels. The network node includes an optical demultiplexer, optical switch, optical multiplexer, and an optical channel add/drop device. Supervisory optical signals having a different wavelength than the wavelengths of the group of optical channels are generated and spliced with each optical channel by the optical demultiplexer. The supervisory channel optical power is tapped off at various points in the network node, such as the output optical channels of the demultiplexer, dropped optical channel outputs, output optical channels from the optical switch, and the output WDM optical signal of the multiplexer. The supervisory channels are monitored by a wavemeter for bypass lightpaths and dropped lightpaths. Added optical channels are monitored by monitoring a portion of the signal power in the added lightpath of the added optical channel. If the wavemeter detects the absence of the supervisory signal, or the portion of the added optical channel, this indicates a fault condition and the network control is notified to effect correction of the fault.

摘要: A method and apparatus for intermixing circuit and packet data on a shared transmission medium. With this invention, the history of gaps between transmitted circuit frames is used to predict future gap sizes. If the size of a predicted gap is larger than the size of a frame of packet data to be transmitted, then the packet data is inserted in the next gap. If a circuit data frame arrives before the completion of transmission of a packet frame, the circuit data will be stored in an insertion buffer until completion of transmission of the packet frame.

摘要: Improved decision support techniques are disclosed. For example, a technique for processing transactional data for use in accordance with a decision support operation comprises the following steps/operations. The transactional data is transformed into an interim form according to a relative importance of the transactional data to the decision support operation. The transformed data is incrementally analyzed, wherein the incremental analysis comprises applying a successive approximation to the data in the interim form, such that the decision support operation can be incrementally performed based on a transactional load. The technique may further comprise allocating one or more computing resources to incrementally perform the decision support operation.
