Abstract:
A bed extension device for use with a conventional bed having a mattress and box springs includes a head support element having a generally planar top portion and a side portion, wherein the top portion includes a hole therein and wherein the side portion is joined to the top portion at a substantially right angle; an insert element having a horizontal portion for insertion between the mattress and the box springs and a vertical portion extending at a substantially right angle therefrom; and a fastener for securing the side portion of the head support element to the vertical portion of the insert element to provide a desired alignment between the upper surface of the mattress and the top portion.
Abstract:
Methods for forming a composite ring having unidirectional filaments embedded in a polymer matrix is disclosed. The filaments are spirally wound within the ring to form a plurality of essentially circular hoops which are in coaxial alignment with the expected lines of principle force. In one embodiment the formed ring is structurally integrated into the rotor of a gas turbine engine to reinforce the rotor and to restrain the rotor blades which extend outwardly of the ring.
Abstract:
The invention provides for systems, methods, and compositions for targeting nucleic acids. In particular, the invention provides non-naturally occurring or engineered DNA-targeting systems comprising a novel DNA-targeting CRISPR effector protein and at least one targeting nucleic acid component like a guide RNA. Aspects of the invention in particular relate to Cpf1 mutants having altered PAM specificity.
Abstract:
A gas lift pump apparatus for treating ballast water includes a column through which a liquid medium, such as seawater, may be pumped by gas lift. The apparatus includes a delivery device for delivering a flow of a gas into the liquid medium, and a resonance chamber that generates ultrasonic energy therein by the flow of the gas therethrough. The apparatus is operable to launch the ultrasonic energy into the liquid medium in the column.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for the encapsulation of living cells with a silica glass layer. The methods comprise adding a sol solution to cells in buffered media, forming a sol-gel layer on the cells and then diluting the media or removing the cells from the media.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for selectively storing event data. In one described method, an event associated with an article is captured. The captured event can comprise event data. The method further comprises evaluating the event for satisfaction of a criterion. If the event satisfies the criterion, it is indexed.
Abstract:
Present invention concerns software-driven subscription services providing custom-branded all-inclusive Member Websites and custom branded Marketing Materials including, among others, online Virtual Tours and Stand-alone Videos. Present invention further and uniquely provides means whereby such Branded Merchandise and related Marketing Materials originating with one Member Subscriber can be selectively shared with other Member Subscribers and Custom Re-branded for dissemination across all platforms and media concurrently, independent of browsers and viewers and mitigating meta data without loss of control of merchandise or merchandise listing by Originating Member Subscriber or loss of sales credit to shared Member Subscriber upon successful sale of offered merchandise.
Abstract:
Apparatus 10 for detecting inadequate maintenance of a system 12 of an aircraft or other vehicle is provided. The apparatus comprises: computer readable medium or media 14 configured to store data 18 relating to operation or non-operation of the system 12 over a period of time; and a data processing unit 16 configured to evaluate the data to identify at least one event indicative of the inadequate maintenance of the system.
Abstract:
A method of configuring software on a computer is disclosed herein. The software comprises at least one module and the computer comprises a nonvolatile storage having at least one address. An embodiment of the method comprises loading a flag into the address; reading the flag using the software; and activating the module in the software depending on the state of the flag, wherein activating the module causes at least one program to be installed on the computer.
