Abstract:
A skin dressing comprises a first dressing component (16) carrying oxidoreductase enzyme in dried condition; and a second dressing component (18) carrying a source of water, such that when the first and second dressing components are placed in fluid communication with each other, water migrates from the second component towards the first comportent and acts to hydrate enzyme carried by the first component, at least at the surface of the first component. The dressing components are kept separate before use, e.g. being sealed in separate sterile, water-impervious packages such as laminated aluminum foil pouches. In use of the dressing, the second dressing component is located on the skin of a human or animal, e.g. over a wound to be treated or on a region of skin to be treated for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes such as for treatment of acne or other skin conditions. The first dressing component is placed on top of the second component in fluid communication therewith. In embodiments comprising only first and second dressing components, the first dressing component is placed in direct contact with the second dressing component. Water from the second component migrates towards the first comportent and acts to hydrate enzyme carried by the first component, at least at points of contact at the interface between the first and second components. Once hydrated, the oxidoreductase enzyme can immediately begin functioning in known manner with beneficial effects.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein provide tools and methods for spinal fusion procedures. One embodiment of a tool can be a pedicle access tool that performs the functions of targeting needle, cannula, tap and awl. The cannula of the tool can be used to guide various tools and bone graft or fusion promoting material to a surgical site for a spinal fusion procedure, such as a posterolateral procedure. In other embodiments, a k-wire can be used as the guide.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein provide systems and methods for vertebral reduction using sleeves detachably coupled to collars of bone fasteners. The reduction can be performed during a minimally invasive procedure for implanting spinal stabilization systems. A sleeve can include internal threads that match threads on the respective collar to form a continuous set of threads. Threads on a closure member can be engaged with the threads on the sleeve and the closure member turned to translate the closure member along the sleeve. The closure member can be used to push a rod relative to the collar to which the sleeve is attached to cause a vertebral body to move.
Abstract:
A data analysis program operable for displaying at least one representation of a buried pipeline in a geographical area and associated on-pipe current values at various locations along the pipeline. The data analysis program is storable in a memory device and executable by a processor to generate a display on a display device. The data analysis program includes instructions for displaying a digital map representing at least a portion of the buried pipeline extending across the geographical area being surveyed. The program further includes instructions for displaying a current plot of current values associated with the various locations in the geographical area, and instructions for displaying a table having a plurality of fields including the leakage current values and associated geographical coordinates where the current values were measured in the geographical area being surveyed.
Abstract:
A method of facilitating access to a schema, the method comprising the steps of receiving a request from a first computing device for at least one fragment of the schema; identifying a second computing device that has access to the fragment of the schema; and providing the first computing device with a datum that enables the first computing device to retrieve the fragment of the schema from the second computing device to thereby facilitate access to the schema.
Abstract:
Systems, methods and computer program products for providing compliant messaging services are disclosed. Methods according to some embodiments include receiving input data from a campaign sponsor, encrypting at least a portion of the input data, generating a message schedule that includes message content, recipient identification data and temporal data corresponding to a plurality of messages, and sending and/or receiving one of the plurality of messages to and/or from a corresponding recipient.
Abstract:
A line marking apparatus includes a chassis (2) provided with wheels (4) and with means (6) for propelling the apparatus. A line marking head (12) is adapted to dispense line marking material so as to mark a line upon a surface over which the apparatus is moved. A support (14) is provided for the line marking head such that the line marking head is movable laterally relative to the chassis. Lateral movement of the line marking head is controlled by a controller which includes a detector (32) for detecting a beam of electromagnetic radiation indicative of the line to be marked and which also includes control means for moving the line marking head in response to detection of the beam by the detector, whereby lateral movement of the line marking head relative to the chassis is controlled such that the line marking head substantially follows the line to be marked irrespective of whether the chassis deviates from the direction of such line.
Abstract:
A method of inspecting or utilizing tools in the underwater environment of a nuclear reactor vessel, a spent fuel pool or equipment pit includes floating a platform for transporting inspection devices and/or tools over an underwater target site and deploying the devices or tools to the underwater target site. The platform may be coupled to a boom whose opposite end is carried by a cart movable about a floor area surrounding the pool. Alternatively, the platform may be independently movable along the water surface by thrusters.
Abstract:
An analytical test device incorporating a dry porous carrier to which a liquid sample, eg. urine, suspected of containing an analyte such as HCG or LH can be applied indirectly, the device also incorporating a labelled specific binding reagent which is freely mobile in the porous carrier when in the moist state, and an unlabelled specific binding reagent which is permanently immobilised in a detection zone on the carrier material, the labelled and unlabelled specific binding reagents being capable of participating in either a sandwich reaction or a competition reacts on in the presence of the analyte, in which prior to the application to the device of a liquid sample suspected of containing the analyte, the labelled specific binding reagent is retained in the dry state in a macroporous body, eg. of plastics material having a pore size of 10 microns or greater, through which the applied liquid sample must pass en route to the porous carrier material, the labelled specific binding reagent being freely soluble or dispersible in any liquid sample which enters the macroporous body.
Abstract:
Inhibitors of macrophage migration inhibitory factor having a thienopyridinone backbone are provided which have utility in the treatment of a variety of disorders, including the treatment of pathological conditions associated with macrophage migration inhibitory factor activity. The inhibitors of macrophage migration inhibitory factor have the following structures: including forms such as stereoisomers, free forms, pharmaceutically acceptable salts or esters thereof, solvates, or combinations of such forms, wherein n, R1, R2, R3, X, and Y are as defined herein. Compositions comprising an inhibitor of macrophage migration inhibitory factor in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier are also provided, as well as methods for use of the same.
