Abstract:
A method of transmitting information about a buffer size includes transmitting a bit string comprising a first bit string and a second bit string when the buffer size is greater than or equal to a first value, the first bit string indicating a quotient which is acquired by dividing the buffer size by a second value, and the second bit string indicating a value corresponding to a remainder which is acquired by dividing the buffer size by the second value.
Abstract:
Improving communication efficiency in handover re-establishing an ARQ entity in a mobile communication system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting first Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) Packet Data Units (PDUs) correctly received from the source cell, together with a special indication requiring reordering of the first PDCP PDUs, from a Radio Link Control (RLC) receiving buffer to a PDCP receiving entity when a handover command message from a source cell to a target cell is received; buffering the first PDCP PDUs in a PDCP PDU reordering buffer by the PDCP receiving entity in response to the special indication; and when a second PDCP PDU is received from the target cell through a new RLC receiving entity for the target cell, outputting third PDCP PDUs up to a PDCP PDU before a first missing PDCP PDU having a sequence number higher than that of the second PDCP PDU from the PDCP reordering buffer. In the method, a PDCP entity performs reordering, thereby improving efficiency of communication.
Abstract:
A method for providing soft handover in a code division multiple access mobile communication system supporting multicast multimedia broadcast service. In an asynchronous mobile communication system supporting an MBMS service, when a UE moves to a region where it can receive data from a plurality of Node Bs, soft handover is performed on the UE. Thus, even though an MBMS user moves from an existing cell to a new cell, a stable MBMS service is provided. Furthermore, the UE can soft-combine data received from a plurality of Node Bs.
Abstract:
A call setup method and apparatus for minimizing call setup delay by a UE in a mobile telecommunications system are provided. The method includes the steps of: if call setup for a packet call service is requested, determining by the UE if the requested service is a predetermined service sensitive to call setup delay; if the requested packet call service is the predetermined service sensitive to the call setup delay, establishing control information representing that the packet call service is sensitive to the call setup delay; and transmitting a request message requesting the call setup to a network, the request message including the control information. In the method, a network causes a UE using a packet call service sensitive to call setup delay to maintain a connected state, so that restart delay of the packet call service can be minimized.
Abstract:
A retransmission method and apparatus performed in a transmitter of a mobile communication system supporting a Hybrid Automatic Retransmission reQuest (HARQ) operation and an Automatic Retransmission request (ARQ) operation for retransmission of a packet are provided. At least one ARQ entity generates at least one ARQ packet, and an HARQ entity transmits an HARQ packet including the at least one ARQ packet to a receiver, and transmits a local NACK signal indicating transmission fail of the ARQ packet to a corresponding ARQ entity, if the HARQ packet fails in transmission.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for enabling efficient use of radio resources by reducing an RLC PDU size in a mobile communication system supporting voice service over a packet network are provided. An RLC layer constructs an RLC PDU without inserting information indicating the start and end of an SDU or indicating the use or non-use of padding. The RLC layer sets an LI in a header to indicate inclusion of an intermediate SDU segment in the data field of the RLC PDU. Therefore, the resulting decrease of overhead arising from packet transmission facilitates the efficient use of limited radio resources.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for reducing excessive retransmission delays which may occur due to the loss of the last packet of a transmission buffer in a Radio Link Control (RLC) layer of a mobile communication system. The method includes receiving a Service Data Unit (SDU) from a higher layer, dividing the SDU into a plurality of Packet Data Units (PDUs), and storing the PDUs in a buffer, setting a poll bit for a last PDU from among the PDUs stored in the buffer, the poll bit requesting a status report, and repeatedly transmitting the last PDU having the setup poll bit at least twice from a sender to a receiver, regardless of whether there is a request for retransmission of the last PDU.
Abstract:
This invention provides a paging method for Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service in mobile communication system paging process and radio resource setup process are merged in this method to try to reduce uplink responses. This invention extends existing PCH IubFP frame structure by adding MBMS Indication bit(MI) to PCH IubFP frame. The PCH IubFP frame includes Paging Indication (PI) and Paging Message. Paging message carries MBMS service information. MBMS Service Identity or MBMS Paging Indicator is added to the reserved 12 bits in Paging Indicator Channel (PICH) frame structure. Radio Network Controller (RNC) transfers Paging Indicator Message and paging message to Base Station (Node B) so as to send over the air-interface.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for performing scheduling in a Node B for data transmission of a user equipment (UE) in a mobile communication system supporting an enhanced uplink dedicated channel (E-DCH). The Node B receives, from a radio network controller (RNC), scheduling assistance information for an uplink service to be provided from the UE. The Node B estimates a data amount for the uplink service on the basis of the scheduling assistance information in each scheduling period. The Node B schedules data transmission for the uplink service according to the estimated data amount.
