Abstract:
A method for measuring fundamental mode cutoff wavelength of single polarization fiber comprising: (i) launching pulsed light of at least one wavelength λi into one end of the single polarization fiber; (ii) measuring backscattered light intensity corresponding to said wavelength to obtain the backscattered light intensity as a function of fiber position, wherein the backscattered light propagates through the same end of the fiber; and (iii) determining at least one cutoff wavelength and the corresponding position within said fiber for the cutoff wavelength, based on a specified threshold light intensity level.
Abstract:
An optical fiber comprising a core having a refractive index profile and a centerline; and a cladding layer surrounding and directly adjacent the core; wherein core includes updoping material and is doped with Aluminum in at least one region of the core, such that either: (a) the average longitudinal acoustic wave velocity within the core is within 0.05% of the longitudinal acoustic wave velocity within the cladding; or (b) the longitudinal acoustic wave velocity in the core changes by at least 0.2%.
Abstract:
A method for measuring longitudinal variation in chromatic dispersion in an optical fiber, comprising: (i) launching into a first end and a second end of optical fiber an optical signal at a wavelength λ1 to collect backscatter power P(z) for different positions z within said optical fiber and providing measured OTDR backscatter traces; (ii) deriving from the measured OTDR backscatter traces at the single OTDR wavelength λ1 either (a) the longitudinal MFD(z) data or (b) the relative MFD data; and (iii) calculating estimated longitudinal dispersion D(z) from the longitudinal MFD(z) data or the relative MFD data, without utilizing any other wavelength data.
Abstract:
This invention provides a method that when the disturbance of the bandwidth or the signal quality occurs during the digital program broadcasting, so that the broadcasting quality of the currently broadcast normal program is below a predetermined value, a prearranged program having a specific broadcasting quality, such as advertisements, will be inserted. The prearranged program may have an regular relation to the currently broadcast normal program, thereby the user would rather appreciate some program than suffer bad screen showing or wait until the program returns back to a good condition to be watched normally. This invention further provides a method for making statistics of the inserted prearranged program, said statistical information could be used for charging.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for creating an electronic bookmark during browsing on a web. According to a predetermined sequence the method records the process of browsing the specific program content by an user and stores the process in a storing means. The stored content is a browsing command for requiring a specific server to send the program content from an random position in a specific program specified by an user. When a user clicks the bookmark, a series of requests contained in the bookmark are handled one by one in the batch-handling manner, so that the user can directly and accurately find the specific position in the specific program in a on-line manner in the web, as conveniently as using conventional bookmarks in the conventional books.
Abstract:
An optical fiber that includes a central core having a maximum dimension (A) greater than a minimum dimension (B), preferably with an aspect ratio greater than 1.5, the fiber having at least one air hole positioned on opposite sides of the central core and extending along the fiber's length wherein the fiber supports a single polarization mode within an operating wavelength band. The fiber may be coupled to optical components in systems to provide single polarization in the band. A method for manufacturing the fiber is also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a method for preparing R-(+)-LA as well as its metal salts including sodium salt, potassium salt, calcium salt, magnesium salt, zinc salt, ferric salt, cooper salt , lithium salt and its organic salt, wherein a racemic Ethyl 6, 8-Dichlorooctanoic acid is employed as starting agents, followed by a hydrolysis and resolution processes to obtain (+)DCA, and then through sulfuration and cyclization process to obtain R-(+)-LA as well as its varied salts. A method for converting the (−)DCA to (+)DCA is also introduced.
Abstract:
According to the present invention the optical fiber includes a core with a first refractive index (n1) and the innermost core region with the refractive index n0, a cladding surrounding the core, the cladding having a third refractive index (n3), wherein n1>n3 and n0 n2. It is preferable that at least one of the core, innermost core region and/or moat has a non-circular shape.
