    摘要: A radio network controller is operable in both a unicast signaling mode and a bi-cast signaling mode. In unicast signaling mode, the radio network controller is operable to send radio resource control signals to a mobile station through a serving cell. The radio network controller is operable to go into bi-cast signaling mode during a hard handover. In the bi-cast signaling mode, the radio network controller is operable to send radio resource control messages to the mobile station through both the current serving cell and a target cell. The mobile station is configured to listen to both the current serving cell and the target cell for radio resource control messages. User data, however, is transmitted only from the current serving cell to the mobile station.

An air interface of the cellular communication system is divided up into sequentially occurring frames, each of the frames comprising a plurality of sequentially occurring sub-frames, each of the sub-frames comprising a plurality of sequentially occurring symbols. Operation includes receiving and detecting a request signal transmitted by a device within the cell. Based at least in part on a characteristic of the request signal that is indicative of one or more device capabilities of the device, an associated time/frequency position for transmitting a response signal is ascertained. The response signal is transmitted at the ascertained time/frequency position.

The method comprises receiving signals comprising reference signals from a serving cell and reference signals from neighboring cells; determining signal power of the reference signals from the serving cell and signal power of the reference signals from detected neighboring cells; and determining carrier-to-interference ratio to be the ratio between the signal power of the reference signals from the serving cell and the signal power of the reference signals from the detected neighboring cells.     摘要: Methods and devices for detecting a symbol in a radio channel and for cell identification are disclosed. A signal is received from the radio channel and the signal is filtered by a filter being responsive to the symbol thereby establishing a first signal. A second signal dependent on the noise floor of the received signal is established—whereby a time interval expected to include multi-path components being excluded or suppressed. A third signal being the ratio between the first signal and the noise floor is established, and the presence of the symbol is detected by detecting a peak in the third signal.

    摘要: A user equipment (UE) in a mobile communications system is operated in a manner that alleviates or avoids an overload condition in the UE. This involves operating a receiver of the UE to receive one or more data blocks via a channel. In response to a user equipment overload condition being detected, a channel quality indicator (CQI) value is reported to a serving base station, wherein the reported CQI value represents a channel quality that is lower than an actual quality of the channel. The UE is then operated in a manner that is consistent with the reported CQI value. UE overload conditions include overheating, and an inability to process received data blocks at the rate at which they are being received.
