    摘要: Hot, saturated water vapor in the form of low-temperature subatmospheric steam is employed to shorten the aeration period after sterilization with a condensable, heat-labile chemical sterilant. The application of steam accelerates the rate of outgassing of sterilant residuals that are absorbed into, or adsorbed or condensed onto chamber or load materials. The method is particularly suitable for removing residuals from polymeric materials and/or materials that are poor heat conductors. Apparatus is provided to supply steam in situations where a utility steam supply is not available.

    摘要: The present invention provides a sterilization process particularly well suited for sterilizing instruments and other devices having long narrow lumens. Apparatus in which the process can be practiced is also provided. The process uses a multicomponent sterilant vapor wherein one component is water. The lumened instruments are fluidly connected to the exhaust manifold of the sterilizer. A deep vacuum is drawn in the sterilization chamber followed by the injection of pulses of the sterilant vapor until a higher, but still subatmospheric pressure level is reached. When the pressure level reaches a predetermined subatmospheric level, a flow-through sterilization phase begins. It includes successive alternating periods of sterilant flow and the discontinuance of such flow. During sterilant flow periods, there are sterilant injection pulses where the sterilant flows through the chamber and the lumened instruments to exhaust. Each such flow period is followed by a hold period. Following the sterilization phase, there are one or more aeration steps to remove sterilant from the chamber.

    摘要: This process sterilizes the surfaces within a chamber wherein a first portion of the surfaces is at a temperature below 10.degree. C. and a second portion of the surfaces is at a temperature greater than 20.degree. C. The process includes the steps of introducing vapor phase hydrogen peroxide to the chamber, contacting the first portion with the vapor to effect condensation thereon, contacting the second portion with the vapor, applying a source of vacuum to the chamber and continuing to introduce vapor phase hydrogen peroxide into the chamber until the surfaces are sterile while preserving the temperature ranges of the first and second portions.
