The device discovery involves directionally transmitting a data unit from a transmitting station over a channel in different directions to emulate omni-directional transmission, receiving the data unit transmissions from different directions at a receiving station, determining the quality of the transmissions received from the different directions, and detecting location information for the transmitting station relative to the receiving station based on the highest quality transmission among the transmissions received from the different directions. Further, if a channel has sufficient bandwidth to satisfy direct link communication between two stations, then during a direct link set-up stage, the two stations conduct a probing message exchange using omni-direction transmission, and upon successful probing, obtain communication link status information and set proper communication configurations for the two stations based on the communication link status information.

    摘要: A method and system for transmitting video information from a sender to a receiver over a wireless channel is provided. Video information bits are placed into one or more data packets at the sender, and each data packet is transmitted from the sender to the receiver over a wireless channel during a current time frame. For each transmitted data packet, the sender receives a corresponding acknowledgment packet from the receiver. The sender then performs burst retransmission of the negatively acknowledged packets during a next time frame comprising a BeamTrack Group for transmission of further data packets from the sender to the receiver over a wireless channel. The receiver utilizes each retransmitted data packet to recover a lost or erroneously received data packet.

Redundancy information is generated for pixels in one or more packets and transmitted over the wireless channel. In case of packet loss or damage, the redundancy information can be used to recover the pixels in the lost or erroneous packet. The redundancy information can be transmitted to a receiver on a different channel than said packets. The redundancy information can be transmitted in one or more packets among the original pixel data packets.

Pixels in an uncompressed video frame are grouped into groups of pixels for wireless transmission from a transmitter to a receiver, wherein the neighboring pixels in each group possess (have) high spatial correlation. Upon receiving the pixel groups, the receiving station reconstructs the video frame from the received pixel groups, wherein upon detecting an erroneous pixel in a group, information from one or more neighboring pixels in that pixel group are used in place of the erroneous pixel. Further, FEC encoding is utilized recovering bit-errors.
