A process is disclosed for the manufacture of CF3CF═CH2 and CF3CH═CHF. The process involves dehydrofluorinating CF3CHFCH2F in the presence of a dehydrofluorination catalyst to produce a product mixture comprising CF3CF═CH2 and CF3CH═CHF, and recovering said CF3CF═CH2 and CF3CH═CHF from the product mixture. The present invention also provides a composition comprising (a) the Z-isomer of CF3CH═CHF and (b) HF; wherein the HF is present in an effective amount to form an azeotropic combination with the Z—CF3CH═CHF.

The process involves contacting a starting material comprising 1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropene with a catalyst on AlF3 or carbon, wherein the catalyst is selected from the group consisting of SbClwF5-w, TiClxF4-x, SnClyF4-y and TaCl2F5-z wherein w is from 0 to 4, x is from 0 to 3, y is from 0 to 3, z is from 0 to 4, to obtain a product wherein the Z/E ratio of 1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropene is increased relative to the Z/E ratio of 1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropene in the starting material.A process is also disclosed to decrease the Z/E ratio of 1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropene. Disclosed herein is a process to produce an azeotrope composition comprising a hydrofluoroolefin and hydrogen fluoride, said process comprising, dehydrofluorinating a hydrofluorocarbon containing at least one hydrogen and at least one fluorine on adjacent carbons, thereby forming a mixture comprising said hydrofluoroolefin, unreacted hydrofluorocarbon and hydrogen fluoride, and distilling the mixture to produce a distillate composition comprising an azeotrope composition containing said hydrofluoroolefin and hydrogen fluoride and a column bottoms composition comprising said hydrofluorocarbon essentially free of hydrogen fluoride. Also disclosed herein are processes for separation of hydrofluoroolefins from hydrofluorocarbons and from hydrogen fluoride.

The process involves (a) reacting HF and chlorine and at least one halopropene of the formula CX3CCI═CCIX (where each X is independently F or Cl) to produce a product including both CF3CCI2CF3 and CF3CCIFCCIF2; (b) reacting CF3CCI2CF3 and CF3CCIFCCIF2 produced in (a) with hydrogen to produce a product including both CF3CH2CF3 and CF3CHFCHF2; (c) dehydrofluorinating CF3CH2CF3 and CF3CHFCHF2 produced in (b) to produce a product including both CF3CH═CF2 and CF3CF═CHF; and (d) recovering CF3CH═CF2 and CF3CF═CHF from the product produced in (c). In (a), both CF3CCI2CF3 and CF3CCIFCCIF2 are produced in the presence of a chlorofluorination catalyst consisting of (i) compositions comprising a crystalline alpha-chromium oxide where at least 0.05 atom % of the chromium atoms in the alpha-chromium oxide lattice are replaced by copper, and (H) compositions of (i) which have been treated with a fluorinating agent.

The apparatus is characterized by the portion of the reaction wall comprising a copolymer of a perfluoro (alkyl vinyl ether). The perfluoro (alkyl vinyl ether) is selected from the group consisting of CF30CF═CF2, C2F5OCF═CF2, C3F7OCF═F2, and mixture thereof. Also disclosed is a photochemical reaction process wherein light from a light source is directed through said reactor wall to interact with reactants in said reactor. A process for increasing the fluorine content of at least one compound selected from hydrocarbons and halohydrocarbons, comprising: (a) photochlorinating said at least one compound; and (b) reacting the halogenated hydrocarbon produced in (a) with HF. A process for producing an olefinic compound, comprising: (a) photochlorinating at least one compound selected from hydrocarbons and halohydrocarbons containing at least two carbon atoms and at least two hydrogen atoms to produce a halogenated hydrocarbon containing a hydrogen substituent and a chlorine substituent on adjacent carbon atoms; and (b) subjecting the halogenated hydrocarbon produced in (a) to dehydrohalogenation.
