    摘要: Techniques to improve the standby time of a station in a wireless network are described. An access point may advertise or convey a maximum listen interval and/or an association timeout supported by that access point. A station may operate in a power-save mode and may wake up every listen interval to receive a beacon and any potential traffic for the station. The station may select a suitable listen interval based on the maximum listen interval. The station may be dormant for a longer duration than the listen interval and may become active at least once in every association timeout in order to keep the association with the access point alive. The access point may also send broadcast and multicast traffic that might be of interest to stations in the power-save mode less frequently and using a special indication message.

    摘要: The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that is capable of accessing different types of networks such as a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network. While communicating over the packet-switched network, the device negotiates a sleep interval that is longer than the ordinary interval available using the packet-switched network. In this manner, the device wakes less frequently and thereby conserves power. A buffering system is included so that data directed towards the device while it is asleep may be buffered for later delivery when the device awakens.

The method and apparatus afford selection of a wireless communication system access technology from a number of wireless system access technologies supported by a wireless device. Selection is accomplished by storing identification information concerning access technologies pertaining to a first group of wireless system access technologies, such as 3GPP2, in a search database, which concerns the priority of access technologies pertaining to another group of access technologies, such as 3GPP. Selection of a preferred wireless communication system access technology from one of the wireless access technology groups is then based on the identification information stored in the search database.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for determining the quality of a communication link transmitting a specified packet type are disclosed. The methodology includes configuring first packets, which share transmission characteristics with a specific packet type, such as a Voice over IP packet, such that the first packets experience similar communication link treatment as the specific packet type. The first packets are then transmitted over the communication link to a quality monitoring server located near a termination equipment of the particular communication link. Second packets, which are transmitted by the server in response to the first packets, are received and evaluated to determine the quality of the communication link based on characteristics of the second packets. Corresponding apparatus are also disclosed.

The processor may be configured to maintain in the memory a database containing a list of access points that have previously served the access terminal with at least a minimum quality of service, the processor being further configured to use the list to search for an access point to associate with, or search for an access point to handoff the access terminal to during operation. In addition to, or alternatively, the processor may also be configured to maintain in the database a second list of access points. The database may be used by the processor to search for an access point that is not on the second list to associate with, or handoff the access terminal to.

Transmit power may be defined for an access node (e.g., a femto node) such that a corresponding outage created in a cell (e.g., a macro cell) is limited while still providing an acceptable level of coverage for access terminals associated with the access node. An access node may autonomously adjust its transmit power based on channel measurement and a defined coverage hole to mitigate interference and perform a self-calibration process.

    摘要: Transmit power for a user equipment (UE) is set by a Home NodeB (HNB) in response to interference at a nearby macrocell. The HNB monitors an interference level to the macrocell from a UE communicating with the HNB. An acceptable transmit power for the UE is determined by the HNB in response to the interference level. A power change indicator is transmitted from the HNB to the UE to adjust the transmit power of the UE. In some cases, the interference may be estimated from a busy indicator from the macrocell and the HNB sends a modified version of the busy indicator to the UE to adjust the transmit power of the UE. In other cases, the HNB estimates a path loss for the UE based on received signal power from the macrocell and signals a transmit power change to the UE, if needed, based on the estimated path loss.
