    摘要: A soft hemostasis pad of elastomeric material having a hardness of no more than about 50 Shore 00 and an upper surface of raised profile, such as a dome. The pad may be connected by a hinge with another, generally flat-bottom pad of similar elastomeric material and hardness of no more than about 50 Shore 00. The pad may rest on the skin and be penetrated by a needle or other cannula. The pad with the raised profile may then be placed over on top of the needle, for improved hemostasis and sealing when the cannula is removed and before, facilitated by the application of gentle pressure, such as by tape that holds the pads in place.

    摘要: A medical device has an interior for containment of fluids; an opening into the interior, an elastomeric wall comprising a fixedly placed, flexible barrier across the opening; and a retention wall positioned adjacent to a peripheral portion of the elastomeric wall. The retention wall defines a central opening and has a generally rigid retention zone surrounding the central opening, to engage and retain a connector tube which is advanced into the central opening to displace the elastomeric wall and to open a flow aperture through the elastomeric wall, for flow through the wall and connector tube. One of the retention zone and connector tube are made of a material of sufficient hardness that material of the other engaging member is deformed by engagement therewith, which increases the strength of retention between the retention wall and the connector tube.

    摘要: A tubular set portion for circulating blood between a patient and an extracorporeal blood treatment device. The set portion has: an arterial tube for conveying blood from a patient toward the blood treatment device; a venous tube for conveying blood from the blood treatment device back towards the patient; and a pair of spaced, transverse tubes that each connect between the arterial tube and the venous tube, each of the tubes being capable of clamp sealing. The arterial and venous tubes are clamp sealable between the spaced, transverse tubes. Flow reversal on the patient's side of this device is possible by appropriate clamping of two opposed tube sections of the rectangular array which may be formed by the joined tube sections, while flow remains unchanged on the side of the tubular set portion that is connected to the extracorporeal blood treatment device.

    摘要: A tubular set for the conveyance of blood includes flexible set tubing and a bubble trap chamber connected to the tubing for any desired extracorporeal blood transport process. The bubble trap chamber includes a housing defining an outer wall, a flow inlet to the interior of the housing, and a flow outlet at or near the bottom of the housing. The housing also includes an inner wall adjacent to its top. The inner wall is radially inwardly spaced from the outer wall within the chamber, extending circumferentially and generally parallel to the outer wall for at least about 90.degree. of the circumference of the outer wall and preferably at least 180.degree., to define a circumferential passageway between the inner and outer walls. The flow inlet communicates with the circumferential passageway, so that blood can be directed to flow from the inlet horizontally and circumferentially through the passageway to a pair of passageway outlets. The passageway outlets are spaced in the chamber from the inlet, with the effect that the horizontal blood flow path of blood in the chamber is lengthened with less flow velocity, which improves the bubble removal capability of the bubble trap chamber.

    摘要: A flow through bubble trap for fluid flow lines comprises a chamber having a substantially flat, lateral side, a first port tube, and a second, opposed port tube. A flow directing baffle system is positioned in the chamber to direct incoming fluid from one of the port tubes into a first, lateral flow direction to allow substantially horizontal fluid flow circulation in the chamber. Fluid flow from the circulating fluid in the chamber enters into the other of the port tubes in a lateral flow direction that is generally the same as the first lateral flow direction, while the baffle system prevents direct flow between the first and second port tubes. The chamber is adaptable to fit with a large variety of conventional dialysis machines and the like, having multi-purpose supplemental access ports, for a simplification of the number of codes necessary for product distribution.

The port and closure assembly includes a port having a tubular portion that extends from a base and terminates at an end including an opening. The tubular portion is divided into an upper and lower section by a pierceable membrane. The upper section including an end that terminates at the opening and including a resealing injection site. A closure member for removably surrounding at least a portion of the end of the port including the opening is provided. The closure includes a sleeve that circumscribes at least a portion of an outer surface of the upper section of the tubular portion. The sleeve is so constructed and arranged as to cause portions of the upper section to contact the resealing member during a sterilization step that softens the portions and further causes the portions of the upper section to retain the resealing injection site within the tubular portion after the portions have hardened.

    摘要: A blood dialyzer system which comprises a membrane dialyzer carried by dialysis solution delivery means and having blood and dialysis solution inlets and outlets. The membrane dialyzer is carried in a position whereby the blood inlet is vertically lower than the blood outlet, and the dialysis solution outlet is vertically lower than the dialysis solution inlet. Bubble trap means are provided in direct communication with the blood outlet and blood flow conduits, with the bubble trap means being preferably attached to and carried by the membrane dialyzer. The dialysis solution delivery means is adapted to permit intermittent reversal of the normal flow of dialysis solution through the membrane dialyzer to remove air bubbles trapped therein. Also, improved designs of integral bubble traps carried by dialyzers are shown.

    摘要: Capillary fiber bundles of semipermeable membrane material may be used by winding the fibers onto a reel member to form an annular assembly of the fibers, and thereafter cutting the annular assembly into separate bundles. In accordance with this invention, the capillary tubing is fed to the reel through guide slot means elongated in a direction generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the reel. The tension on the capillary tubing is sufficiently low to allow the capillary tubing to move about while winding in the guide slot means in generally random manner. Accordingly, the bundles comprise strands in generally non-parallel, crossing arrangement with adjacent strands. Individual bundles may be wrapped in a special flexible sheet, and cut at their ends for improved quality.
