According to the invention the interpretation of the information depends on at least one link adaptation parameter employed for transmitting the control signaling.

A method and apparatus is disclosed, for digital data transmission using higher order modulation schemes, wherein a plurality of bits is mapped to bit positions of a symbol and the transmission has different error probabilities for at least two out of the bit positions. Bits are selected from a data stream of original bits for repetition and repeated. Repeated and unrepeated bits are mapped to modulation symbols, wherein the mapping of bits to bit positions depends on the error probabilities of the bit positions and on the selection result.

The invention provides a method of interleaving a source data stream using an interleaver pattern in a transmitter. A mother interleaver pattern and an interleaver parameter are accessed. The mother interleaver pattern is modified using said interleaver parameter. Then, the modified interleaver pattern is applied in the transmitter for interleaving the source data stream. The interleaver parameter used by the transmitter for modifying said mother interleaver pattern differs from the interleaver parameter used simultaneously by at least one other transmitter that transmits data at the same time on the same channel. The invention further provides a corresponding deinterleaving method. By decorrelating the interleaver processes in the different streams, the inter-stream interference is reduced.

The present invention relates a method and a decoder for decoding codewords, the decoding being performed as message passing on a graph representation of the code, e.g. on low density parity-check (LDPC) code, wherein for each non-zero entry in a parity check matrix, the message matrix elements of a first message matrix are initialized with data obtained from a demodulator, and the elements of a second message matrix are determined based on message matrix elements of said first message matrix. Further, a decoded codeword is reconstructed based on the data obtained from the demodulator and the matrix elements of the second matrix. Moreover the present invention relates to and to a communication system, a mobile terminal and a base station comprising the decoder. To reduce the influence of wrong information the decoding method uses subset of matrix elements from said first/second matrix for determining a matrix element of said second/first matrix, wherein the matrix elements of said subset fulfill a reliability criterion.

The present invention relates to a method for balancing the distribution of interference between radio cells in a wireless communication system comprising cells in which subcarrier blocks are used for communication. A number of adjacent cells build a cell cluster. Moreover, the present invention relates to a corresponding method adapted for use in a system in which multi beam antennas or multiple antennas are used. Furthermore, the present invention relates to base stations performing the above method as well as a communication system comprising the base stations. To reduce the large average SIR variations without causing additional SIR estimation, measurement and calculation problem as introduced with power control the invention suggests to group subcarrier blocks into a plurality of subcarrier block sets in each cell of a cell cluster, to determine transmission power ranges for each of the cells of said cell cluster, and to assign transmission power ranges to the subcarrier block sets to perform TPC within the ranges.

The calculation of the soft-information values being input into an FEC decoder comprises the steps of calculating and buffering the soft-information values of the most significant bits (MSBs) of each (re)transmitted data packet; combining, for matching modulation symbols, the current soft-information values of the MSBs with the buffered soft-information values of at least one of the previous received transmitted packets; and calculating the soft information for at least some of the remaining bits (XSBs) from the combined soft information values of the MSBs.

The invention relates to a control channel signal for use in a mobile communication system providing at least two different scheduling modes. Further the invention relates to a scheduling unit for generating the control channel signal and a base station comprising the scheduling unit. The invention also relates to the operation of a mobile station and a base station for implementing a scheduling mode using the control channel signal proposed by the invention. In order to facilitate the use of different scheduling schemes for user data transmission while avoiding an additional flag for indicating the scheduling mode in the control signaling, the invention proposes the use of code points in existing control channel signal fields. Further, the invention proposes a specific scheduling mode for use in combination with the proposed new control channel signal according to the invention. According to this scheduling mode control channel information is only provided for retransmissions, while initial transmissions are decoded using blind detection.
