摘要: A modular blood filter device and delivery system, comprising a hollow vessel insertion device with a modular filter apparatus. The insertion device, which can be an introducer, includes a distal end adapted to enter an artery, and a proximal end adapted to receive a modular filter apparatus. When the insertion device is a cannula, the modular filter apparatus is received through a side port. The modular filter apparatus includes a shaft and an adjustable filter device or a removable filter associated with the shaft. The adjustable filter includes filter mesh, an adjustable frame capable of assuming enlarged and contracted conditions and a frame sizing mechanism associated with the frame. Certain embodiments include a filter cartridge, and the shaft is inserted into the cartridge, thereby protecting the adjustable filter device therein. The cartridge may then be removably received by the insertion device. An expandable obturator may be used to ease the entry of the insertion device into the vessel. Indexing and locking mechanisms are described for aligning the cartridge or the obturator to the insertion device. Vessel sizing tools are also described for determining the size of the vessel into which the filter will be introduced. The insertion device may then be introduced into a blood vessel, and the adjustable filter device may be deployed through the device into the vessel. The adjustable frame may be self-adjusting or externally adjusted to fit the vessel and to capture embolic material in the mesh. The frame may be collapsed to the contracted condition, and may be removed from the vessel or embolic debris may be removed by an aspiration tube. The modular filter cartridge may be removed from the cannula, and a new modular filter cartridge may then be received therein.

摘要: A steerable catheter comprising a resilient body member, a manipulation handle attached to the proximal end of the body member, a control wire extending from the handle to the distal end of the catheter for deflection control, and a pulley mechanism for controlling the movement of the control wire. Longitudinal movement of a slide element in the handle causes movement of the control wire and control over the deflection of the distal end of the catheter. The pulley mechanism is connected between the slide element and the control wire to provide greater mechanical advantage to effect deflection of the body member while enhancing deflection control resolution. A stiffening member is also disposed in the catheter body member and its position is controlled by the rotational motion of the slide element. The position of the pulley mechanism is not affected by rotational motion of the slide element.

摘要: A surgical method for treating obesity by reducing the size and/or function of the stomach includes forming at least two plications or tissue folds in tissue of a patient using anchor assemblies having a loop. The plications are then optionally allowed to heal. A loop suture or wire is threaded through the loops. The loop suture is then tensioned to draw the plications towards each other. The loop suture is then secured via a knot or a cinch. When the method is performed in the stomach for treatment of obesity, forming the plications reduces the volume of the stomach. Drawing the plications together creates a contracted tissue area which further reduces the volume of the stomach. Additional plications may also be formed and drawn together with the same loop suture, or with a different loop suture.

摘要: The invention provides a nested tubing cannula which comprises outer and inner elongate tubular members, both having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen therebetween. The inner tubular member is sealed at its distal end and is nested substantially coaxially within the lumen of the outer tubular member, so that the gap between the inner and the outer tubular member defines a second lumen whereas the first lumen is the lumen of the inner tubular member. A tubular sleeve is disposed coaxially between the inner and outer tubular members. A balloon is mounted on a distal region of the outer tubular member and is in communication with the first lumen. The cannula further comprises a port proximal or distal the balloon occluder and is in communication with the second lumen. Methods for making the devices herein are disclosed.

摘要: Devices and methods for filtering blood. The devices generally comprise a mesh for filtering blood flowing within a blood vessel particularly within an artery such as the aorta, a structure adapted to open and close the mesh within the blood vessel, and a means to actuate the structure. The methods generally include the steps of introducing a mesh into a blood vessel to entrap embolic material, and removing the mesh and the entrapped foreign matter from the blood vessel.

摘要: An ablation catheter system for capturing and removing necrotic tissue and thrombi generated during an ablative procedure is disclosed. The catheter typically includes an elongate member, a filtration assembly disposed within the distal region, and an ablation instrument at the distal end. Alternatively, the ablation instrument is carried on the distal end of an ablation catheter, which is disposed within a lumen of the catheter system. The catheter may further include an aspiration port and lumen. Methods of using the devices in preventing distal embolization during ablative procedures are disclosed.
