摘要: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a tissue expander that expands in a gradual manner using a controlled release of gas resulting from a chemical reaction of a reactant substance within the tissue expander. The reactant substance is initially in a liquid or solid state and is stored in an internal chamber of the tissue expander. The chemical reaction of the reactant substance produces the gas that causes the tissue expander to expand over time. The tissue expander continues to expand gradually after implanting of the tissue expander within a patient’s body and initiating of the chemical reaction.

摘要: An assembly for replacement of a native aortic heart valve includes a radially collapsible prosthetic heart valve and a delivery apparatus. The prosthetic heart valve includes an annular frame with attachment posts, wherein each of the posts has an axial post portion and a transverse post portion having a greater circumferential dimension than the axial post portion. The delivery apparatus includes an inner shaft with a valve connection portion for releasably coupling to the attachment posts and an outer shaft having a sheath for maintaining the prosthetic heart valve in a radially compressed state. Rotation of a control knob on a handle causes the sheath to retract for uncovering a portion of the prosthetic heart valve. Further rotation of the control knob allows the posts to decouple from the delivery apparatus such that the prosthetic heart valve self-expands to a fully expanded state.

摘要: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems used to deliver a prosthetic heart valve assembly. In embodiments, a prosthetic heart valve assembly, including a self-expandable support structure and a self-expanding heart valve, are advanced through the aortic arch of a patient using a delivery system. The support structure, which includes a plurality leaflet retaining arms, is at least partially expanded and positioned on or adjacent to the outflow side of the aortic valve. The prosthetic heart valve is positioned in the aortic valve. The prosthetic heart valve is expanded while it is within an interior of the support structure and while the support structure is positioned on or adjacent to the outflow side of the aortic valve, thereby causing one or more native leaflets of the aortic valve to be frictionally secured between the arms of the support structure and the expanded prosthetic heart valve.

摘要: Absorbable implants for breast surgery that conform to the breast parenchyma and surrounding chest wall have been developed. These implants support newly lifted breast parenchyma, and/or a breast implant. The implants have mechanical properties sufficient to support a reconstructed breast, and allow the in-growth of tissue into the implant as it degrades. The implants have a strength retention profile allowing the support of the breast to be transitioned from the implant to regenerated host tissue, without significant loss of support. Three-dimensional implants for use in minimally invasive mastopexy/breast reconstruction procedures are also described, that confer shape to a patient's breast. These implants are self-reinforced, can be temporarily deformed, implanted in a suitably dissected tissue plane, and resume their preformed three-dimensional shape. The implants are preferably made from poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB) and copolymers thereof. The implants have suture pullout strengths that can resist the mechanical loads exerted on the reconstructed breast.

摘要: The disclosed embodiments relate to a mitral or tricuspid heart valve prosthesis that includes. An expansible tubular frame and a prosthetic valve mounted on the frame. The frame includes an atrial portion, a ventricular portion, and an annular portion located between said atrial and ventricular portions, wherein: the atrial portion is made up of three or four metal-wire extensions, regularly distributed on the circumference of said atrial portion and projecting from said annular portion, each extension being made up of a single upside-down U-shaped or V-shaped wire and the various extensions being substantially part of an imaginary truncated sphere placed above said annular portion. The annular portion is made up of diamond meshes which comprise anchoring points; and said ventricular portion is made up of three or four extensions equivalent to the extensions, substantially contained inside an imaginary ovoid shape placed under said annular portion.

摘要: A prosthetic disc for insertion between adjacent vertebrae includes a core having upper and lower curved surfaces, upper and lower plates, and peripheral restraining structure on at least one of the upper plate, the lower plate and the core. Each plate has an outer surface which engages a vertebra and an inner curved surface which slides over the curved surface of the core. The peripheral restraining structure serves to hold the core against a curved surface of at least one of the plates during sliding movement of the plates over the core.

摘要: An apparatus for crimping a radially expandable stent includes a pressure vessel, shaping balloon, and mandrel. The mandrel is configured to slidingly receive a stent thereon, and to be slidingly advanced into the pressure vessel. The shaping balloon is inflated to radially compress the stent onto the form of the mandrel; such compression need not be uniform. Pressurization of the shaping balloon facilitates the expansion of the balloon to achieve compression of the stent, with depressurization of the shaping balloon causing the balloon to return to an unexpanded state.

摘要: An implant for creating incisions in the tissues surrounding the bladder neck and the urethra of a patient, for relaxing the opening of the bladder, the implant includes a central connector and at least one wire, the wires extend radially outwardly from the center of the central connector, the wires apply continuous pressure on the surrounding tissues, the wires are foldable within an implant sheath for enabling delivery and extraction thereof, the implant is implanted within a restricted location of the urethra for a period of time for creating incisions at the locations where the wires apply pressure on the surrounding tissues.
