The system includes a network for transmitting preferably IP-format data, a first device for outputting particular multimedia content received through the network, and a second device for outputting a second multimedia content prepared for, and received upon requesting, continuous provision of the particular multimedia content through the network. A contents server delivers the particular multimedia content and the second multimedia output to the first and second devices, respectively. The second multimedia content consists of the part of the particular multimedia content remaining to be transmitted at the point of time at which the second device requested the continuous provision of the particular multimedia content.

A method and apparatus for generating a thumbnail image are provided so that the out-of-focus (OOF) information can be ascertained from looking at the thumbnail. An input image is decoded, and a degree of the amount of OOF of the decoded image is measured (OOF information). There is a determination as to whether or not there is an EXchangeable Image File (EXIF) information about the input image. In the presence of EXIF information, a thumbnail image is extracted from the EXIF information and as much an OOF effect is applied to the thumbnail image in accordance with the degree of OOF. In the absence of the EXIF information, a thumbnail image is generated by scaling down the decoded image at a down scaler and applying as much of an OOF effect is applied to the thumbnail image in accordance with the degree of OOF.

The stored pixels of the relevant block size of 8×8 and the stored extra pixel data are used; and then the stored pixels of the relevant block size of 8×8 and the stored extra pixel data stored in the cache memory are re-used during an inter prediction of the relevant block size of 8×8 and sub-blocks.

A broadcast/communication convergence system and method for transmitting and receiving Ethernet data by an optical network unit (ONU) performing a time division multiplexing (TDM) operation and switching by a network switch. A resultant signal is transmitted to a corresponding subscriber set-top box (SSTB), and data from the SSTB is provided to the network switch. A length of an Ethernet data frame is provided from the network switch, and an encapsulation generates and inserts data length information into an Ethernet data frame, for transmission to the SSTB. The SSTB carries out a TDM operation for a signal transmitted from the ONU, and separates the signal into Ethernet and broadcast data. A framing bit is detected based on a result of the separated signals, the length information is detected. A preamble bit and a start-of-field delimiter (SFD) are inserted into the recognized Ethernet data to recover the original Ethernet data.
