    摘要: A bottom operable lading valve assembly for tank cars includes a valve closure plug movable between open and closed positions relative to a circular plug seat located within a valve body opening. A housing is affixed to the valve body with fasteners comprising a shear plane. The housing includes a generally vertical housing opening into which a rotatable valve operator is mounted comprising a lower tool connection portion and an upper operating portion. The upper operating portion includes upper operator threads which engage an operating stem depending from the valve plug. The valve operator separates below the shear plane in the event impact causes the housing to shear off along the shear plane to maintain the closure plug in seated position to prevent escape of lading. During rotation of the valve operator in a direction to move the closure plug to open position, the closure plug wipes the plug seat. Further rotation of the valve operator causes the plug to move vertically toward open position without rotation. Rotation of the valve operator from open position causes the plug to move vertically downwardly to a closed and seated position without rotation.

One end of the slide valve has a piston thereon mounted in a piston chamber and is responsive to a sensed fluid pressure in a flow line. The visual indicator is adjacent the other end of the slide valve and includes an outer fixed indicator element and an inner axially aligned rotatable indicator element. The outer fixed indicator element has a plurality of pie-shaped segments with alternate segments being transparent to permit visual viewing of the movable inner indicator element. The inner indicator element has a plurality of pie-shaped segments with alternate segments being of a green color and intervening segments being of a red or contrasting color. The altenate segments of the inner indicator element are axially aligned with the transparent segments of the outer indicator element in one position to present visually one color and the intervening segments are axially aligned with the transparent segments in the otherposition to present visually the contrasting color.

    摘要: A railway car truck assembly includes spaced side frames supported by truck journal bearings. A bolster extends transversely between the side frames. A spring assembly is supported on the spaced side frames and engages the lower surface of the boltster. The bolster includes a center bearing and a pair of side bearings mounted on either side of the center bearing. The side bearings receive the weight of the car body. Each of the side bearings includes an upper surface made of a first low friction material. The car body includes a depending center portion engaging the center bearing and spaced side portions having a lower surface made of a second low friction material engaging the side bearings. One of the first and second low friction materials is selected from nylon polyesters, polycarbonates, polyacetals and polysulfones. The other of the first and second low friction materials is selected from polytetrafluoroethylene. The coefficient of friction between the upper and lower surfaces is sufficiently low that the truck easily rotates with respect to the car body. The second low fricion material may optionally include a polymeric polyolefin component such as polyethylene, having a low exchange time, and the minor amount of a chemically inert fluorinated hydrocarbon polymeric material such as polytetrafluoroethylene.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention an air inlet and outlet valve is mounted within an opening in the top of a railway tank car. The valve is operable from the bottom of the car by means of a rotatable operating shaft which extends from the bottom of the car up through the tank to the top of the tank to operate the valve. The operating shaft includes an operator for raising and lowering the valve located at the bottom of the tank, and includes a shaft telescoping arrangement whereby the upper portion of the shaft telescopes relative to the lower portion of the shaft, as the top of the tank moves relative to the bottom of the tank. Thus when the car is impacted and the top of the tank moves downwardly relative to the tank bottom, the upper portion of the operating shaft will move downwardly relative to the lower portion of the shaft, and the valve will remain closed during such impacts, while allowing opening and closing of the valve from the bottom of the car by means of the operating shaft and the operator.

    摘要: A diagonal strut energy absorbing cushioning assembly for use in a trailer hitch for holding piggyback trailers in place on railway flat cars including an inclined longitudinally extending fixed member attached to the deck of a railway car and an inclined longitudinally extending movable member spaced from said fixed member. The movable member is attached to a kingpin engagement assembly of a railway trailer hitch for holding in place the kingpin of a highway trailer. A resilient assembly is carried by the fixed and movable members. The resilient assembly includes at least one elastomeric member attached to a first surface on the fixed member and a second surface spaced from the first surface attached to the movable member. The elastomeric material is shearable between the first and second surfaces under cushioning loads. The fixed and movable members further include side portions which together with the first and second surfaces cooperate to define a housing for the resilient material, including spaced, juxtaposed flange portions. One of the flange portions includes a channel and the other of the flange portions includes a projection located within the channel. The projection is movable relative to the channel to guide movement of the movable member relative to the fixed member as the resilient material deflects in shear during cushioning of the trailer hitch.

    摘要: A fluidizing outlet is provided having plenum sheets which define with the sides of the bottom pan of the outlet a plenum chamber. At least a portion of the lower edges of the plenum sheets are spaced from the sides of the bottom pan a suitable distance to provide gaps which form first fluidizing openings. Openings are provided in the upper portion of the plenum sheets to provide second fluidizing openings to fluidize the lading. The respective sizes of the first and second fluidizing openings are of a size sufficient to fluidize the lading, and are sufficiently large that they are not readily clogged by contaminates; for example, from dirty supply air and/or improper outlet cleaning to prevent operation of the outlet, and of a size sufficient that substantially all of the lading is removed during unloading. It has been found that the spacing between the outlet pan and the plenum sheets forming the first fluidizing openings should be at least about 0.03 inches, and should not exceed about 0.04 inches. It has further been found that the openings in the plenum sheets forming the second fluidizing openings should have a cross-sectional area of at least about 0.002 in..sup. 2, and should not exceed about 0.004 in..sup.2. The second fluidizing openings should be spaced from each other within the range 0.75 to about 1.25 inches.

The one-piece hanger member is formed of a molded plastic material and when employed with an adjusting screw for varying the height of the metering rod receives the adjusting screw in a tight fit within an internally threaded opening.
