    摘要: A pointing device having an illumination system, an imaging array, and a controller is disclosed. The illumination system illuminates a surface over which the pointing device moves, the illumination system generating a light signal having first and second spectral regions. A portion of the light signal is viewable by a user of the pointing device. The first spectral region includes visible light of a predetermined color and the second spectral region includes infrared light. The imaging array records a plurality of images of the illuminated surface and is sensitive to light in the second spectral region. The second spectral region can be chosen to match the sensitivity of a silicon imaging array, while the first spectral region provides a decorative glow that is seen by the user.

The housing has an upper surface and at least one sidewall and is mounted on the upper surface of the substrate, thereby forming a cavity. The light emitting die is mounted on the upper surface of the substrate within the cavity. The cup is positioned within the cavity and is supported by the housing. The cup has a continuous sidewall with a reflective inner surface surrounding the light emitting die and a lowermost edge that is suspended above, detached and spaced away from the upper surface of the substrate.

The lead frame may have a planar portion; a bond area having a light-emitting diode attached thereto; and at least two terminals configured for surface mount technology. The reflector cup may be proximate the bond area and may have an opening, wherein light emitted from the light-emitting diode passes through the opening; a side wall extending between the planar portion and the opening; and a clear lens located proximate the opening and attached to the reflector cup. The combination of the lens and the reflector cup causes a light beam originating from the light-emitting diode to be less than fifteen degrees.

    摘要: An optical mouse includes a housing movable across a work surface with a source of non-coherent light in the movable housing for illuminating the work surface at a low or grazing angle of incidence, and may include a two dimensional array of photodetectors, each of which may produce an output in response to light reflected from surface irregularities on the illuminated work surface. The housing may include a memory for storing the photodetector outputs captured at one or more times. Circuitry in the housing may track movement of the housing relative to the work surface by comparing at least some of the photo detector outputs captured at a first time with at least some of the photo detector outputs captured at a second time depending upon whether a characteristic condition in the photo detector outputs, such as uniformity, is detected. The circuitry may track movement of the housing by comparing light reflected from the surface irregularities a first time with light reflected there from at a second time unless a detectable image is not included therein.

    摘要: An optical input device for finger input on an electronic computing device. The optical input device includes a thin-film transistor (TFT) imager and an integrated circuit (IC). The TFT imager includes a protective layer, a substrate, and a TFT array. The protective layer has a finger contact surface. The TFT array includes photo-sensitive thin-film transistors disposed on a surface of the substrate, between the substrate and the protective layer. The TFT array generates image signals corresponding to physical features of a user's finger in contact with the finger contact surface of the protective layer. The integrated circuit is coupled to the TFT imager. The integrated circuit processes the image signals from the TFT array.

    摘要: In one embodiment, ones of a plurality of drive currents are modulated in accordance with ones of a plurality of unique modulation sequences. The modulated drive currents are then applied to a plurality of light emitters. Thereafter, a stream of optical measurements is obtained from a photosensor that is positioned to sense the aggregate light emitted by the light emitters. The stream of optical measurements is then correlated with the modulation sequences to extract optical responses to each of the plurality of drive currents. Finally, each drive current is regulated based on its relationship to its corresponding optical response. Related apparatus, and other methods for regulating the drive currents of a plurality of light emitters, is also disclosed.
