The test strip has at least one patch on which the test substance is incorporated in a vehicle formulated as a film which adheres to the patch and contains at least one film-forming polymer capable of absorbing moisture which when the strip is being used is secreted from the skin area tested. The characteristic feature of the strip is that on at least one of the patches on which said vehicle is formulated as a film the said polymer has the structure (I), where n is the number of times that the structure within brackets is repeated and may be ≧100, and A is a straight or branched alkylene group having a length of 3-5 carbon atoms.

A method for allergy testing is carried out by applying to the skin of a patient a thin, flexible strip of adhesive tape a portion of which carries on its adhesive side at least one group of closely spaced projecting lances carrying an allergen, so that the tape releasably adheres to the skin, pressing at least the lance-carrying portion against the skin to cause the lances to penetrate the skin to a depth less than the subcutaneous tissue thereby carrying the allergen into the skin, and maintaining contact between the allergen and the thus-traumatized skin cells, leaving the strip in place for a period of time sufficient for the patient's skin, if allergic to the allergen, to produce an allergic reaction; and removing the strip from the skin whereby the patient's allergy to the allergen may be determined by visual observation of the skin area penetrated by the lances.

The disclosure is directed to a container for unit doses of dry vaccines which are to be administered on the surface of the skin. The unit dose container is made up of a rigid receptacle and a compressible closure which supports a bifurcated needle bearing dried vaccine. The closure is adapted to support the needle in the container during a lyophilizing process while liquid vaccine is dried on the needle. The closure has grooves which in one position of the closure relative to the receptacle permit the vaporized liquid from the vaccine to be withdrawn from the receptacle during lyophilizing. In another position the closure seals the container. The move from the first position to the second position is accomplished merely by pressing on the end of the closure.
