Abstract:
A system and method for positioning an article under a person are provided. The system includes an apparatus having a first cover structure and a second cover structure, each having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface is movable in a first direction and the second surface moves in a second opposite direction. A coupling structure couples the first cover structure and the second cover structure, spacing them to enable the article to be positioned therebetween. The first and second directions of the first and second cover structures are substantially aligned. Movement of the first surfaces of the first and second cover structures in the first direction causes the second surfaces of the first and second cover structures to move the article positioned therebetween in the second direction by the second surfaces.
Abstract:
A method and system is provided for repositioning a patient on a transfer surface (e.g., a hospital bed, a stretcher, an imaging system, or the like). The system comprises two rollers positioned on one side of the surface, and a retractable transfer sheet wound around the rollers. The transfer sheet may be unwound from the two rollers to form two layers between the patient and the transfer surface. The patient may then be moved by sliding a top layer of the transfer sheet relative to a second layer of the transfer sheet. After use, the sheet can be retracted around the roller(s), allowing it to be stored in a location that is convenient but out-of-the-way. Such a system may allow a patient to be moved with less force, in less time, with fewer personnel, or with some other benefit.
Abstract:
A transfer system includes an air-bearing support with first and second longitudinal sections. A port is provided in flow communication with the first and second longitudinal sections, and configured for inflation of the air-bearing support for transfer of a patient or other body. A selective coupling extends between the first and second longitudinal sections, adapted to attach the first and second sections together for transfer of the body on the air-bearing support, and to at least partially detach the first and second longitudinal sections for separation and removal, e.g., upon deflation of the patient support, after the transfer is accomplished.
Abstract:
A method of transferring a patient from a first resting surface to a second resting surface includes inserting a corrugated sheet into a channel formed between the patient and the first resting surface, extending a portion of the sheet between the patient and the first resting surface to under the patient's feet, extending a portion of the sheet between the patient and the first resting surface to under the patient's head, and pulling laterally on the sheet to slide the sheet from the first resting surface to the second resting surface thereby transferring the patient.
Abstract:
The transfer assistance device includes a bogie, an arm tiltably supported by the bogie, a holding part that is supported by the arm and holds a torso of a person being assisted. The holding part includes at least a low pressure cell group and a high pressure cell group configured to respectively face different parts of a front surface of the torso of the person being assisted. The transfer assistance device further includes air pressure adjuster configured to individually adjust air pressure of the low pressure cell group and air pressure of the high pressure cell group.
Abstract:
A patient transfer device and an associated method of transferring a patient using the device are described. The device, which can be used anytime a patient needs to be moved or transferred out of bed especially in those circumstances wherein the patient is in any way incapacitated and is unable to move or assist in the transfer, transfers the patient laterally from a longitudinal side of the bed onto the device. The transfer can be accomplished with minimal medical staff interaction and as such significantly and substantially reducing the risk or injury and harm not only for the patient but also the staff.

Abstract:
An inclined lift for patient transfer is designed to allow a patient to be pulled on an inclined ramp which is subsequently movable to a raised generally horizontal position. IN the raised generally horizontal position a patient may be transferred to a chair or to a further horizontal structure such as a bed. In a preferred embodiment the inclined lift includes a patient slide mat that is movable onto the ramp by a retraction mechanism. The patient sits or lies on the mat and a winch type mechanism pulls the mat onto the inclined ramp. There is no requirement for a patient harness to directly pull the patient onto the inclined ramp.
Abstract:
The various embodiments disclosed herein relate to wheelchair systems for transporting a mobility-challenged passenger onto an aircraft and transfer that passenger into an aircraft seat. The implementations include systems with lift systems, belt systems, and/or transfer ramps.
