    Abstract: A tire tread is provided with a crown main groove, and outboard and inboard shoulder main grooves to divide the tread portion into an outboard crown land portion, an inboard crown land portion, an outboard shoulder land portion and an inboard shoulder land portion. The inboard shoulder land portion is provided with inboard shoulder lateral grooves connecting an inboard tread edge and the inboard shoulder main groove. The outboard shoulder land portion is provided with outboard shoulder lateral grooves extending axially inwardly from an outboard tread edge and terminating within the outboard shoulder land portion. The inboard crown land portion is provided with inboard crown lateral grooves extending from the inboard shoulder main groove and terminating within the inboard crown land portion. The outboard crown land portion is provided with outboard crown lateral grooves extending from the crown main groove and terminating within the outboard crown land portion.

    Abstract: A pneumatic tire having enhanced on-ice braking performance achieved by further increasing the amount of water that can be sucked up into sipes. In the pneumatic tire, blocks (26) partitioned by circumferential grooves and lateral grooves are formed in the tread. A sipe (28) is formed in a block (26), and a fine structure (32) having a height in the range of from 1/50 of the sipe width t to less than 1/10 of the sipe width t is formed on a sipe wall surface. This reduces fluid friction coefficient of water relative to the sipe wall surface to a lower level than conventional products. As a result, when water staying on ice comes into contact with the sipe wall surface, the water is more easily sucked up into the sipe. The construction increases the amount of water that can be sucked up into the sipe (28) or the removal amount of water that stays on ice etc., and this enhances braking performance (friction characteristics) on ice.

    Abstract: A pneumatic tire has inner mediate land portions and center land portion(s) that are divided into a plurality of blocks by lateral grooves. Each of the lateral grooves includes a pair of wide portions opening to a main groove and a narrow portion coupling the pair of the wide portions, one-side-closed sipes are formed in a bottom of each of the lateral grooves formed in the inner mediate land portions. The one-side-closed sipes are open at the wide portions and close at the narrow portion, a both-sides-open sipe is formed in a bottom of each of the lateral grooves formed in the center land portion or portions. The both-sides-open sipe is open at the wide portions and at the narrow portion.
