A high-frequency signal double-layer flat cable adapter card that is capable of eliminating transmission disorder of a double-layer cable caused by paralleling and overlap of high-frequency signals and a direct current power supply loop. The high-frequency double-layer flat cable adapter card comprises a first connecting end, a second connecting end and a flat cable group formed by at least two strips of flat cables. The first connecting end includes a first substrate and a connector. The second connecting end includes a second substrate. The flat cable group is in an upper-lower dual-layer structure and is connected between the first connecting end and the second connecting end. A conductive metal foil sheet is arranged between upper and lower dual layers of flat cables of the flat cable group. The width of the metal foil sheet must cover areas of the flat cable group adopted as a power supply loop to isolate the magnetic field effect of the areas of the upper and lower dual layers of flat cables adopted the power supply loop.

A flexible flat cable and a manufacturing method thereof are disclosed. The Flexible flat cable is manufactured by the following steps of: forming a metal layer on an insulated base layer, then forming a protective layer on the metal layer which had been formed above the insulated base layer, to make the metal layer be covered between the insulated base layer and the protective layer for forming a composite shelter, then preparing a conducting layer and an insulated substrate, and then spreading an insulated glue layer on the bottom of the composite shelter and then combining the composite shelter, the conducting layer and the insulated substrate by a thermo-compression bonding process to make the conducting layer be covered between the insulated base layer and the insulated substrate for forming a flexible flat cable having the composite shelter.

This invention provides a means of using flexible (also often referred to as simply "flex") circuit structures for external cabling in a small light package, particularly those utilized in portable computers. The external cabling is composed of a flex circuit that is strengthened by fiber strands, and a wrapped sheath of woven mesh netting. The cabling may be further encased in an overcoating for protection against abrasion and chemicals. The packaging scheme using this cable may include a storage device for the cable such that the cable is retractable.

A multiconductor and support has a plurality of elongate conductive elements each with a pair of termini. An elongate support means, carrying adjacent conductive elements, has openings located at the distal and the proximal ends for alignment with conductive elements extending thereover leaving the distal termini thereof unsupported. Heat activated adhesive on the support means bonds the conductive elements. Each of the conductive elements are spaced from the other conductive elements and have center lines which are parallel. A machine for assembly of a multiconductor and support means has a plurality of spools supplying conductive elements and a plurality of guides each positioned to receive and align the supplied conductive elements. The guides position the conductive elements spaced from and parallel to each other. A supply of support means moves support means intermittently but synchronously between the conductive elements and a flat surface. A heated platten compresses and bonds the conductive elements and the support means into an pair. A method for assembling a multiconductor and support includes intermittently moving several conductive elements in parallel spaced relation and intermittently moving a support means in a plane parallel to the conductive elements. Pressing the parallel conductive elements and the support means together forms the pair.

The porous substrate is impregnated with a polymeric material capable of bonding to the insulation of the conductors. The strength of the bond can be varied by varying the amount of the impregnant. If it is desired to separate one or more of the conductors from the substrate, for example to form a branch off, a minimum amount of impregnant can be used.

With the bonding material in a potentially bond-forming condition, for example softened by heat, the leads and the bonding material are combined by pressure in a roll nip. It is known to lay the leads out along a work top and move a heating and combining unit along the leads to form the harness. However, the machine is very long, requires turntables at each end to turn the combining unit, and leaves the harness in an inconvenient form for further handling. An improved cable is provided having both the advantages of mass termination of flat cable and the flexibility of a cable with independent conductors for use in limited space situations. A plurality of substantially parallel and aligned insulated conductors is provided having a layer of flat backing material substantially covering the conductors. There is a layer of adhesive between the conductors and the backing. A further layer of a nonadhesive material is utilized over the adhesive so that the adhesive will not stick to itself in the event that the cable is bent. The adhesive bond between the conductors and the backing material is such that the backing is easily hand peeled from the conductors.
