Abstract:
Apparatus for false twisting yarns is of the type comprising three rotatable shafts, each shaft having a plurality of discs thereon. The shafts are mounted on a base member and two shafts are pivotal about axes which with the axis of the third shaft are at the apices of an equilateral triangle. The third shaft, and spindles providing pivots for the movable arms which carry the other shafts, each have a respective first drive pulley thereon and a primary drive belt passes around the three pulleys. The spindles each also have second drive pulley thereon and each movable shaft has a third drive pulley thereon, a second drive belt passing around each respective pair of second and third drive pulleys. A cam mounted on the third shaft has two like operating portions into contact with which a respective follower part of each movable shaft is biassed. Movement of the shafts may be made without alteration of the tension in, or reverse bending of, the belts.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a conveyor means for simultaneously advancing and twisting a plurality of strands into a rope and the process for utilizing these means. The conveyor includes an elongated trough with two walls which are joined to define the linear path. The first wall includes the plurality of aligned rollers having access of rotating with a predetermined angular relationship relative to horizontal and vertical planes as well as a power means for driving the rollers in unison and means for feeding the strands into the trough and in frictional contact with the rollers.
Abstract:
A yarn false twisting apparatus is disclosed which comprises a pair of rotating circular discs having cooperating friction surfaces for engaging a running yarn at a twisting zone. A pressure applying member is positioned to apply a biasing force to the rear surface of one of the discs locally at the twisting zone, and the pressure applying member comprises a receptacle slideably mounting a piston which extends from the end of the receptacle to engage the disc. The receptacle is eccentrically mounted to permit selective positioning of the biasing force with respect to the yarn path of travel. The discs are mounted on pivotal rocking arms whereby the ratio of yarn twist to yarn speed may be adjusted, and an eccentrically mounted pin provides closely controlled adjustability for the arms and thus the twist ratio. The apparatus may be readily configured to provide either S or Z twist, and the drive system may be disengaged while in either the S or Z twist configuration to terminate rotation of the discs and thereby facilitate yarn thread-up.
Abstract:
A yarn false twisting apparatus is disclosed which comprises a pair of rotating circular discs having cooperating friction surfaces for engaging a running yarn at a twisting zone. The drive system for the discs includes a drive component which includes a drive whorl and a coaxial drive pulley, and which is adapted to engage two separate drive belts. The drive component includes a unitary tubular drive member, a central shaft extending through and fixed to the drive member, a sleeve mounted to the frame of the apparatus and extending between the shaft and drive member, and bearings positioned between the shaft and sleeve. Also, the drive component is mounted to the frame by an arrangement which permits adjustment of the rotational axis of the drive whorl about a second axis which perpendicularly intersects the rotational axis, so as to permit accurate alignment of the rotational axis of the whorl along a direction perpendicular to the running direction of the tangential drive belt. The discs are mounted to the frame by a bearing assembly which includes a tubular sleeve which is releaseably mounted to the frame, a rotational shaft extending coaxially through the sleeve and mounting the disc at one end, and bearings positioned between the shaft and sleeve.
Abstract:
For false twisting apparatus (21) of the kind comprising three rotatable parallel shafts (10,11,12) arranged at the apices of a triangle and having a plurality of parallel discs (14) on each shaft (12) inter-digitating with the discs (14) on the other two shafts (10,11), a threading device (13) is provided allowing sequential threading of a yarn into the apparatus (21). The threading device (13) comprises a body (30) on which tines (40 to 44) are slidably mounted in spaced disposition longitudinally of the body (30) and which can be pushed sequentially into the spaces between consecutive discs (14) on two stacks (10,11) as separated by the discs (14) on the other shaft (12).
Abstract:
A false-twist device of the type in which a pair of crossing belts engage and twist the yarn between them utilizes magnetic means to press the belts together and apply a uniform force to the yarn.
Abstract:
A yarn false twisting apparatus is disclosed which comprises a pair of circular discs which are mounted for rotation about spaced apart axes, and such that portions of the surfaces are disposed in opposing face to face relation and define a twisting zone therebetween. In the operative position, one disc is resiliently deflected from its normal plane of rotation at the twisting zone by its engagement with the friction surface of the other disc, or a yarn passing therebetween, to thereby effectively engage and impart twist to the yarn. The bearing housings for the supporting shafts of the discs are held against movement with respect to each other during the twisting operation, and means are provided for automatically separating the housings and thus the discs in the event of a yarn breakage, to thereby avoid wear of the opposing disc surfaces.
Abstract:
A thread-loading device is used in combination with a false-twist apparatus having at least one frame element having an abutment surface turned away from the yarn-twisting region defined by three sets of axially spaced rotatable twisting disks. The thread-loading device has interengaging formations on the frame adjacent the abutment surface and on the support for releasably securing same together. These formations extend radially of the region. Thus the support can be fitted to the frame by being displaced radially toward the region to interfit the formations. A detent is carried in the support and displaceable between a blocking position engaged with the arm in the outer position thereof for preventing movement of the arm relative to the support and a freeing position permitting such movement. Release mechanism linked to the detent has a release element displaceable between a projecting position engageable with and depressable by the abutment surface when the formations are interfitted and a depressed position for displacing the detent into the freeing position only when the release element is in the depressed position. Thus the arm cannot move on the support unless the support is fitted snugly to the frame with the release element depressed by the abutment surface.
Abstract:
A yarn false twisting apparatus is disclosed which comprises a pair of circular discs which are mounted for rotation about generally parallel spaced apart axes, and such that portions of the surfaces are disposed in opposing face to face relation and define a twisting zone therebetween. In one embodiment, one of the discs is relatively thin and flexible, and such disc is resiliently biased toward the other disc only at the twisting zone. In other embodiments, both discs are relatively inflexible or rigid, and one disc is mounted to its supporting shaft by a gimbal-like interconnection and such disc is resiliently biased toward the other disc only at the twisting zone.
