摘要:
A method for processing a warp sheet of synthetic multifilament yarns wherein the yarns may be withdrawn from supply packages and advanced along a path of travel in warp sheet form, heated and drawn while in advancing warp sheet form to orient the filaments, and then wound for example on a warp beam. Upon detection of a yarn break, the advance of the warp sheet is terminated, and means are provided for interrupting the application of heat to the sheet while the advance is terminated so as to avoid damage to the remaining yarns from a continued application of heat.

A yarn conveying apparatus is disclosed, and which comprises a pair of circular discs, each having a yarn engaging front surface. The discs are mounted for rotation about respective axes which are inclined with respect to each other, and such that portions of the respective yarn engaging front surfaces are disposed in a closely adjacent opposing face-to-face relationship and define a yarn advancing zone therebetween. The discs are resiliently biased toward each other at the yarn advancing zone, and so that the discs are adapted to engage and advance a yarn which is guided through the advancing zone, without substantial slippage.

A yarn heating apparatus and method is disclosed which is adapted for the continuous heat treatment of a running synthetic yarn in a yarn false twist texturizing machine or the like. The apparatus includes a yarn guide tube through which the running yarn is conducted, and a surrounding heater box is provided for heating the exterior of the yarn guide tube so as to heat the running yarn as it is conducted therethrough. Also, air supply means is provided for positively introducing outside ambient air into the yarn guide tube adjacent the entry end thereof, and such that turbulence is produced in the air as it moves through the yarn guide tube to thereby improve heat transfer between the tube and the running yarn.

An apparatus is disclosed for simultaneously air jet entangling a plurality of advancing multifilament yarns. The apparatus includes a plurality of elongate air jet beams, with each beam having a longitudinal air passageway extending along its length, and at least one row of closely spaced air jet nozzle heads supported along each of the beams. Each of the nozzle heads includes a plurality of individual yarn entanglement nozzles and a central air chamber connecting the central air chamber to the air passageway. Also, an air jet aperture communicates between the air passageway and the yarn duct of each entanglement nozzle for directing an impinging airstream against an advancing yarn passing through the duct. The beams are mounted for adjustment on a supporting frame so that the nozzle heads may be positioned in proper alignment with a sheet of yarns passing therethrough. The beams may be rectangular or round in cross section and the nozzle heads are releasably connected along the length of the beams. An enclosure suction box surrounds the beams and removes the air exhausted from the entanglement jets and acts to insulate the noise of the entanglement jets.

A yarn false twisting apparatus and method is disclosed which comprises a pair of friction discs, with one of the discs being thin and flexible, and a pressure applying member for biasing the flexible disc toward the other disc locally at the twisting zone. The discs and pressure applying member are mounted to permit selective movement whereby the ratio of twist to yarn speed may be varied, and to achieve a desired twist in the advancing yarn. The biasing force of the pressure applying member is also adjustable, to achieve an essentially slipless operation by assuring that the torque exerted by the discs exceeds the natural restoring torque of the yarn.

An apparatus for false twisting a yarn is provided which comprises, in one embodiment, a thin pliable disc mounted for rotation with a cooperating disc or roller to define a twisting zone between opposing friction surfaces thereof. A pressure applying member is mounted adjacent the back face of the pliable disc for biasing the disc toward the other member locally at the twisting zone so as to firmly engage the yarn passing through the twisting zone and while the friction surfaces remain in substantially non-contacting relationship with respect to each other. The pressure applying member utilizes an air cushion between the member and back face of the disc to minimize friction. Where two discs are employed, they may be mounted for rotation in a common direction, and such that the yarn may be guided through the twisting zone without passing between the axes of rotation of the discs.

An apparatus and method are provided for applying liquid to a yarn running at high speed, and with a relatively low resistance being imparted to the yarn during the application. The apparatus includes a roller partially immersed in a liquid bath, and having a circumferential surface composed of alternating lands and grooves in the circumferential direction. Means are provided for rotating the roller and for guiding the running yarn tangentially across the top portion of the roller, and such that the yarn advances at a linear speed substantially greater than the peripheral speed of the roller. The yarn guiding means is adjustable to permit the extent of the contact between the yarn and the top of the roller to be varied.

A method and apparatus is provided for producing a synthetic multifilament yarn having appearance, bulk and hand characteristics of conventional spun yarns of staple fibers while retaining strength characteristics of continuous filament yarns. The multifilament yarn is air jet textured to form loops, bows, coils and the like in at least the surface filaments thereof and at least some of these loops, bows, coils and the like only in the surface filaments are parted while the interior or core filaments remain substantially intact to form a yarn having free filament or fiber ends projecting from a substantially continuous filament core. The interior or core filaments are shielded or protected from being parted by false twisting the yarn (without heat setting the twist therein) to provide a substantially closed form with the interior or core filaments surrounded by the surface filaments and by parting the surface filaments while the yarn has twist therein. Also, other steps are taken and means are provided for limiting the filament parting action solely to the surface filaments. Finally, the yarn is heat set after the filaments are parted and after the twist is removed to fix the characteristics imparted in the previous processing steps therein.

An automatic spool-changing system for textile machines with an array of high-speed winding heads, for example of the type having a spool revolver and a lossless thread transfer device. The system has a conveyor moving along the machine front and a spool changer with a gripper movable between the conveyor and a spool holder in a spool-changing position. The conveyor is located below and in generally the same vertical plane with the spool holder, and the gripper, which is arranged for both rotation and axial translation, is mounted for movement along a three-legged spool doffing and spool-donning path extending forwardly of the machine front. Two embodiments are shown. In the first, a separate empty-spool magazine is provided and the conveyor merely serves to carry away the empty spools. In the second, the conveyor serves for the transportation both of full spools and empty spools; in this case the gripper has two angularly displaced heads so that it can execute a spool-doffing and spool-donning operation simultaneously. Controls for the spool-changing system are also disclosed.
