Abstract: An internal combustion engine having a main combustion chamber and an auxiliary combustion chamber having an opening in communication with the main combustion chamber is provided with a first spark plug in the auxiliary combustion chamber and a second spark plug in the main combustion chamber. Abstract: An ignition system for rotary piston engines is disclosed wherein a plurality of ignition plugs are arranged and disposed in the combustion chamber in the directon of the rotation of a piston and connected to a common ignition coil so that one of them may be selectively energized depending upon the changing engine operations. Abstract: A distributor for an engine ignition system which comprises a rectangular electrode and a pair of U-shaped electrodes fitted on the distributor rotor. The rectangular electrode is used as a central electrode input side and the U-shaped electrodes are used as a high voltage input electrode side. Different U-shaped electrodes are alternatively used in each 90* rotation of the rotor so that the mold for the preparation of the distributor is greatly simplified and erroneous discharges to undesired ignition plugs can be prevented.

Abstract: An engine system is provided, which includes a cylinder block, a cylinder head, a piston, a main combustion chamber, a subchamber, an injector that injects fuel into the main combustion chamber, a main spark plug that ignites a mixture gas inside the main combustion chamber, a subspark plug that ignites the mixture gas inside the subchamber, and a controller electrically connected to the injector, the main spark plug and the subspark plug. When an engine speed is above a given reference engine speed, the controller controls, in a low-load range below a given reference load, the ignition devices so that the subignition is performed after the main ignition, and the controller controls, in a high-load range exceeding the reference load, the ignition devices so that only the subignition is performed, or so that the main ignition is performed at the same timing as or after the subignition.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for multiplexing ignition signals in an engine system based on engine operating conditions, each cylinder of the engine system including a main chamber spark plug and a pre-chamber system. In one example, a method may include multiplexing spark signals to a first spark plug and a second spark plug, the first spark plug coupled to a pre-chamber of a first cylinder and the second spark plug coupled to a main chamber of a second cylinder. In this way, one ignition coil may be used to actuate two different spark plugs coupled to separate cylinders.

Abstract: A method of controlling an engine is provided, the method including the steps of injecting main fuel by a fuel injector during an intake stroke or a compression stroke, providing a mixture gas containing fuel and air inside a cylinder, applying by an ignition device a high voltage between electrodes of a spark plug at a timing when the mixture gas is not ignited, detecting a parameter related to a current value of an electric-discharge channel generated between the electrodes, determining whether the detected parameter is within a range between a first threshold and a second threshold to determine a flowing state of a vortex inside the cylinder, injecting supplemental fuel by the fuel injector after the main fuel injection when the parameter is determined to be outside the range, and igniting the mixture gas by the ignition device using the spark plug after the supplemental fuel injection.
