    摘要: A method for compensating for a position error in an optical disc drive (ODD) is provided. The method compensates for a position error generated by a step error associated with a motor which moves an optical pickup unit across a surface of an optical disc. Error data associated with each step of the motor is stored in a memory unit of the ODD, and compensation for the related position error is accomplished by compensating for a track-direction movement of an actuator. The method is particularly useful when conducting a label-printing operation, in that it allows the label printing operation to be performed without generating position errors, gaps, or overwrites on a label surface of the disc, thus enhancing the quality of a label-printing operation and the resulting label.

    摘要: The magnetic disk drive system has a read head and a write head, writes data on the track of the disk, and reads data on the track of the disk. In the present invention, the distance between the heads in the circumferential direction of the disk is computed. The distance between the heads is computed based on the distance between the position of the write head where said data is written and the position of the read head where said data is read. The timing when data is written by the write head is determined by adding said distance to the position where the data is written. Thus, the efficiency of the format of the disk is improved.

Upon mounting a compact disc, a maximum relative address TLm within the lead-in area is detected and stored in a memory. If it is found during an accessing operation that a current position lies within the lead-in area, a total number of tracks interposed between the current position and the target position within the program area can be obtained based on a current address, the maximum relative address and a target address of the target position, thereby achieving a high speed accessing operation.

The disk drive comprises at least one rotating disk having data recording surfaces, and a head for each recording surface. Each head is mounted by an actuator for selective positioning of the head over the respective disk surface. Each disk surface includes data tracks. The method comprises the steps of calculating and storing a write inhibit threshold value for each head in the disk drive, performing a track following operation to determine position of a preselected head relative to a preselected data track, retrieving the write inhibit threshold value for the preselected head, comparing the determined head position to the retrieved write inhibit threshold value and asserting a write inhibit signal upon a certain relationship between the determined head position and the retrieved write inhibit threshold value.
