摘要: Flexible wire cable and the flexible wire cable by the steps of the process for manufacturing the flexible wire cable. The flexible wire cable interconnects between two spaced plurality of terminals. The terminals can be equally centered at opposing ends or can be spaced on different centers at opposing ends. A plurality of wire conductors are laminated between two sheets of insulation, each sheet having a thermosetting polyester adhesive coating, which partially and fully cures as a function of time-temperature-pressure. Each of the plurality of wire conductors are substantially surrounded internally one hundred and eighty degrees by each sheet of the insulation. The insulation is offset to provide an overlap at opposing ends or at only one end to provide a solder stop and controlled flexings of the wire conductors. In another embodiment, at least one metallic shield is laminated to one side of the insulation sheet with like thermosetting polyester adhesive coating on the metallic sheet which cures as a function of time-temperature-pressure. A drain wire extends the length of the metallic shield and is tinned so that it is subsequently conductively bonded to the metallic shield.

摘要: This invention relates to stress control cones for terminations of high-voltage power transmission cables. Such cones are used beyond the end of the cable insulation shielding, and for the purpose of providing thicker insulation for reducing the stress at and beyond the unshielded insulation on a high-voltage power cable. This invention builds up greater thickness of insulation beyond the end of the cable insulation shield, preferably by wrapping the cable with layers of insulating tapes that are then heated and fused to one another and to the outside surface of the cable insulation. The hot build-up of additional insulation is fused, or brought to incipient fusion, to merge the build-up to the cable insulation and the build-up layers to one another, instead of using preformed stress relief cones which are unsuitable for very high voltage. The build-up material is shaped to the most effective contour by the application of force from hydraulically-operated molding shapes made of metal and forced against the build-up by hydraulic motors attached to portable shaping apparatus.

摘要: A method and apparatus for forming cured polyethylene insulation about high voltage cables by applying uncured polyethylene around a core of the cable. The polyethylene is heated, cured and then cooled to room temperature in a pressurized nitrogen gas atmosphere. In one form the molding apparatus comprises first and second mold forms which define a cavity and which include means for heating the mold halves to the polyethylene curing temperature. Means is also provided to introduce the pressurized nitrogen into the cavity and for subjecting cable portions that extend beyond the mold to pressurized nitrogen until such cable portions are sufficiently cooled to prevent their deformation under pressure, to prevent the oxidation of polyethylene and/or to prevent the formation of voids or enclosures. In another embodiment, the apparatus includes cooling openings for receiving a coolant preselectedly along the molding apparatus, a number of spaced-apart temperature gauges for indicating temperature at various locations along the apparatus, a pressure gauge for indicating pressure in the mold cavity, a heat source and a nitrogen source. At each end of the apparatus are recesses in which soft resilient strips are located. During the molding process, the ends of the molding apparatus are kept at a reduced temperature and the pressure in the mold cavity is varied, the nitrogen being used to pressurize the mold cavity during curing. This method insures a quality repair or splice without detracting from the quality of the cable.

摘要: A method and apparatus for insulating a plurality of electrically conductive elements and to produce electrical cable where the method includes heating the unformed insulative material and conductive elements, applying pressure and simultaneously removing heat with a pair of rollers at a relatively low temperature and applying pressure and heat to preselected regions only of the insulative material. The method and apparatus further allow preselected portions of the cable to be unbonded so as to facilitate access to the conductive elements by simply interrupting the application of pressure to the preselected portions. The heat, press and cool and press and bond method may also be accomplished in a step and repeat process using presses to insulative flexible circuits. The above method and apparatus provide more reliable bonding at an accelerated rate of production.

摘要: A molding apparatus having upper and lower platens to which are attached upper and lower mold forms. The apparatus includes two guide pins and a threaded rod for moving the upper platen vertically without disturbing the alignment between the platens and thereby the mold forms. The upper platen is articulated to facilitate placing a cable within and removing the cable from a mold cavity. Threaded fasteners are provided for distributing the clamping force on the upper platen necessary to provide a tight engagement of the mold forms. An injection apparatus communicates with the mold cavity for injecting additional molding material and for increasing pressure within the mold cavity. Bleed or vent openings in the upper platen and mold form are provided for allowing entrapped air to escape. Such a molding apparatus enables highly reliable splices of righ voltage cable to be accomplished easily and simply.

摘要: A device for wrapping insulating tape longitudinally on electrical wire. The electrical wire and insulating tape will lead together with the wire on top of the tape into a first folding shoe. The first folding shoe folds one side of the tape about one side of the wire. A creasing member creases the tape tightly to the one side of the wire. A second folding shoe is provided beyond the first folding shoe, such second folding shoe folding the other side of the tape about the other side of the wire. A second creasing member creases the tape tightly to such other side of the wire. A strand of yarn is wrapped about the folded and creased tape holding such tape securely to the wire.
